Looking to get honest input on pain after surgery. I'm 4 days post-op and have to go back to work tomorrow. Just wondering how long each of you had pain for after getting the LAP BAND placed. I also had a hernia repaired.

TIA!

I had my surgery on a Thursday and felt like I could have gone back to work by Monday. Just a little sore at that point.

Had mine done on the 1st went back to work on the 4th, my performance at my job was a little subpar as a result of various pain, the liquid diet, etc. In general my pain was much better by the 6th, completely gone by the 10th. I didn't have a hernia repair though.

I also had the hernia. Just came out of surgery today and I am in excruciating pain. I was surprised after reading so many reviews that this is minimal pain. I really am not able to sleep or move. Ugh good luck back at work. I took 4 days off plus a weekend in there and my job is kind of physical too. I teach little preschoolers. Hope I can make it!

I was banded on December 7, 2015 and had a hernia repair. How long does the pain from this last? I think it may be worse than the actual band/port placement. It hurts even when taking very small sips. My vision is also pretty messed so I've got added frustration.

I had a hernia repaired during my surgery last month. I was in pain for the first three days and then I really didn't need the pain meds anymore during the day- only at night to sleep. Walking helps. It also didn't help that I went to the dentist 4 days after surgery and all that up and down in the chair was painful after...

I just had my surgery (also had a hernia) on Dec 4 and Dec 9 is the first day I have felt like I could have gone to work. I've been worried about going back to work all week, but hoping things are finally turning around now.

Hang in there and give yourself a few more days.

I went back to work after the 4th day of my surgery and it took a good 2-3 weeks for the pain to go away and some of the swelling to go down. I had my surgery on 8/7/15 and still experience some soreness in my stomach where the port is.

I took a week off. I was still sore when I returned to work. Coughing, standing up without being hunched over, laughing, and swallowing all hurt so bad. I have a semi physical job where I chase toddlers and have to lift things normally so I was just an extra set of eyes in the room for 3 weeks. It gets better after about weeks with hernia repair I think.

I had mine done on December 7 and I was back to work on the 9th. I was suprised I had very little pain after the first day (the 8th) didn't take any pain meds and was able to play with the children a little bit.

5 days isn't realistic for recovery. I'd say 2 weeks could be. Didn't your dr fill out forms for medical leave?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
