Tonight was tough with everyone else eating so much. Kept telling myself I'm doing this for me and there will be lots of other holidays and gatherings to get through, so get used to it. Hoping it's easier after surgery. ????

Yep. I had a rough time too and I'm only on day 2 of my pre-op. I'm in canada so it's not my independence day either.

I didn't notice before how many food ads are on tv!! Omg.

I'm thinking it'll be early bedtimes from now until surgery because evenings are the worst!

Congrats to you on doing so well tonight MaryPh. You did great! Way to go! And happy 4th of july! Exciting times ahead

I am on day 4 post op. I had a hernia repair and gastric sleeve surgery on July 2nd. The pre-op diet went easier than I had expected, the thought of no food really freaked me out beforehand. I was in the hospital one night and I am going to be honest, it was a tough two days. I had severe nauseau and could barely move the first day from the pain. They kept me napping on pain meds. I read enough of the forums to be prepared for the worst and what side effects could happen. Everyone said that it would more than likely pass in 3 days and it does. If you are struggling, just know that by day 3 you will be through the worst of it and hold on to those positive thoughts, it will get better. On day 2, I still couldn't keep Water down and the nausea meds did not help with keeping anything down, but by day 3 I am finally handling liquids and moving around more easily. I am still really sore, but the weight is already falling off and I know this is the best decision in the long run. I have had previous surgeries which created a lot of scar tissue making things a little worse so I know my case is different. I was a basket case before the surgery and even thought about rolling off the gurney right before surgery and walking out, but having seen family and friends do so well with this surgery I stayed the course. Know that you can do it and look forward to those positive feelings!

I am starting to get really nervous friends. I can call the hospital tomorrow at 1:30 to find out what time my surgery will be on Tuesday. I'm scared About the actual surgery (I've never been under anesthesia before) but am excited about the afterwards. I would appreciate prayers from you all. Anyone else feeling nervous?

Prayers said and positive vibes headed your way also! ???? You will be just fine!

I'm nervous on and off at this point. I've got 9 days to go????. I've had two children and had my tubes tied that's as far as I've gone surgery wise myself. The anesthesia part is concerning to me as far as the gas pains after. I've had them before and I went to the hospital the first time. I literally thought I was having a heart attack lol. I think I will use those couple of experiences to mentally get through the gas pains if I have them.

You'll be fine I know it. Please post after you start feeling better so we can check up on you and so you can help me be less nervous lol.

As my first day of pre-op dieting ends. I am glad I had all my food funerals. When I am craving something (head hunger is terrible), I can remind myself that I had my fill. And finally to combat it, I know that my surgeon will visibly see my cheating and that cheating can really endanger my outcome.

I recently read a copy of Overeaters Anonymous and in the book they talk about taking it day by day, minute by minute. That is what I am doing when I get the urge to eat, just overcoming that moment in time and not worry too much about the future.

I am also at the end of my first day of pre op.. I have just 3 days of liquids with a special advanced recovery drink.. Trying to keep very busy and got a lot done today so that is great.. Starting to feel light headed and weak.. I am sure it is the decrease in calories.. But only 2 more days then on to my new life!! Cannot wait!!

I've been reading some post from sleevers from last July and from last month. It has helped me to be more at ease. Reading about the day to day progression of the posters is comforting. They seem to move through the phases at a pretty nice clip. Reading about the common just out of surgery aka 1st couple of days things has helped me too.

My surgery was supposed to be on the 7th, but my surgeon had a cancellation so I got moved up to June 30th which makes me 6 days post op now.

Here are my tips:

- start everything slow. I got ice chips first and I would just suck on them and let the Water drip down my throat. Then I was allowed Water and I think I took smaller sips then what the ice chips provided me. I've just now gotten up to (almost) regular drinks. I consider them mini drinks - in between a sip and a full drink

- walking helps gas pain so much: whenever I would get up to get me something I'd walk to the front of the house, then the back of the house and then to the object I needed. I would walk around the living and kitchen while slowly taking my liquid pain medicine. Just get steps in to get the gas out

- follow your surgeons food plan: now there are times when I'm like "I just want some grilled chicken!" And think that I could handle that and I have to stop and remember that not only do I have a tiny tummy now, it is still super fragile. So I go get me some Soup

- even if you aren't hungry EAT: (which is super weird for most of us to hear) but you will feel so much better if you get some calories in you! It's seriously like night and day energy wise

And to give you hope for those who haven't had surgery before like me- I'm 6 days post op and am feeling pretty normal. Just a little pain when I move a certain way and I still can't sleep on my side yet but I have a feeling I will be able to shortly.

Prayers for all your upcoming surgeries! And I know you'll do great!!

I was scared of anesthesia too but it went well. I was asleep a few minutes after I got in the room and in the blink of an eye it was over and I was awake. I had to look at my stomach to believe it had even been done.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
