I Am on the puree phase and I can't seem to get my calories above 400-500. Is this ok? I am eating Soups and yoghurt but the amount I eat is so small that I can't make calories at each meal. I am getting all my Water and Protein in though. How many calories were you eating at this stage?

Yes this is ok and normal, right now you want to focus on Protein and liquids over the course of the year you will work your calories up but as long as your following your plan, eating the right foods your body is getting everything it needs :)

I'm year and half out and do between 800 and 1000, so 400 to 500 is good at your stage

Thank you! I was worried I would be messing with my metabolism only eating 400 cals! Good to hear that you can get it up later on!

If you are getting in all your Protein and Water I wouldn't be worried about the calories at all. I am 3 months out and I still can't get all my protein and water in!

You're doing fine; especially if you're following your surgeon's/NUT's plan for you. It will be a while before you'll even want to eat more than what you're eating now. Most important now is Protein and WATER/LIQUIDS. I still have trouble some days getting all my water/liquids in. Even though I'm on solid foods now, in order to get enough Protein, I still supplement with 1-2 Protein shakes a day.

I am getting 2 litres of Water a day and 60g Protein which was my goal from my nut. I am doing 2 Protein Shakes or one made with a double scoop. I have some Soup for lunch and some soup, egg or hummos and avocado for dinner. I don't like the idea of puréed meats! The thing is I also really don't feel like eating or feel hungry. It's such a change from before the surgery! Thank you for all your reassuring messages! X

I'm in the same phase currently! My doc told me as long as I can get 400-600 now I'm okay. It's just a lack of energy you'll fine if you don't have many calories throughout the day. So for now I'm shooting for 500 a day, then once I'm at full foods I'll try to work my way up to 700-1000 per day.

What about adding in some Beans? That's a good way for extra calories plus some protein!

My surgeon doesn't want you consuming more than 500. You should call your surgeons/NUTs office and ask what their goal is for you at this stage. Do you have a follow up coming up? Discuss your concerns. Everyone's plan and surgeon will be different.

I had the same issue - 400 ish calories during liquid phase. My NUT stressed - Protein. If I get my Protein numbers she did not really care about the calories. My target for protein was 65 - 80 g. Usually two Pure Protein shakes and I was done for the day.

During soft food phase was another story. I was getting my calories but not my protein. So I had to really pay attention to my soft foods in order to meet my protein. My solution - I still (6 weeks out) have a Protein shake each day.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
