Do you feel weak, faint?

Recommended Posts

Hi---I'm concerned that with the very few calories consumed, that I'll feel shaky or weak. I understand feeling full physically, but how does your body manage to keep you going on so few calories? Does the extra fat get metabolized and converted for use by the body?:)

The only time I felt weak was the first 3 or 4 days after surgery. Since then, I feel better than I've felt in YEARS. I haven't heard too many people on here say that they are weak or shaky. There have been a few, but it doesn't seem to be the norm.

I don't know how long you have been banded, or if you are keeping hydrated, but Protein is what I was instructed to eat first when I eat my meal, that way, when I get full, I have the most important stuff on board. Call your Dr. as you may be having a low blood sugar problem. I think you should not feel so weak and shaky. I do know that we can live on a surprisingly small amount of food daily. Its really amazing.

Fat is stored energy. When you burn off your consumed calories and continue burning it will be fat. You should not feel weak or dizzy unless you consume a lot of sugar and start getting blood sugar spikes.

We're supposed to eat somewhere around 1100 to 1500 (depending on the doctor, but those are the general guidelines for dieting women anyway), which is plenty of food for our bodies to not freak out. I find myself shaky pretty often, but only because I see my hands shaking, not because I actually feel shaky. It's rather odd, but it doesn't really concern me.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm not banded yet, but looking at some of the other wls forums, it seemed like some people were eating 700-800 calories and I know at that level that I'd have low blood sugar episodes.

I haven't met the nutritionist yet, but am getting informed so I ask the right questions. 1200 calories sounds very reasonable!!

Poodle, keep in mind that you're not going to be eating very much at a time. Sometimes a meal for me is less than 100 calories.

If you have three 200 calorie meals and two 100 calorie Snacks, I don't think your blood sugar will drop. Mine doesn't, but I don't know your situation.

Hon, I've been diabetic for 20 years and on several medications. I've always experienced periodic episodes of low blood sugar, weak/shaky, foggy brain, etc. So, like you, I was concerned about what would happen eating so little.

Well, this is what happened....nothing!! For the first time in my life, my blood sugar is staying very level and I have not even had one episode of low blood sugar. In fact, after only a few months, I was completely off all meds and my glucose levels are great.

I am told that it is because I get my Protein and I eat no white (starchy) carbs....those evil carbs that cause your blood sugar to shoot up, then fall rapidly, leaving you weak and shaky. I eat an average of 800 calories a day (I don't count calories, but that's what my fitday.com food journal says). Whatever it is.....my body and my life sure feel more normal than they have in years.

I would recomend speaking to your dr. Get them to run your blood work. One of the reasons I am going for the band is because I am sevearly anemic I have been most of my life. I get shaky often and its due to two things I dont eat much Protein and lack of proper Vitamins my suger spikes only when I eat after not eating for along time. A huge contributor for my weight gains. try special k protein Water someone mentioned it I tried it and it fills me right up I love it new best friends. A little pricy but worth every penny now if I could just grind chicken into water I could save lol just kidding.
