Have you measured your Body fat?

Recommended Posts

Messing around on the internet I can across a measure your body fat. According to that I'm with normal range??? High end but normal.... Haven't had surgery yet scheduled for 5/18. But Really???

Have you ever checked, what were your results.

How can you measure body fat online? I thought it could only be done by measuring the speed with which a small electrical current passes through the body - it travels faster through muscle so the faster it goes, the less fat there is.

External fat can be estimated by touch or measuring but for most people who are obese, there is a large amount of internal fat and that can't be measured by anything other than electric current.

I get mine done all the time....only true way to judge your weight loss and goal weight....

The health club I go to has a scale/machine....but now they charge $12 so I only get it done once a month.

And yes, how do you do it online? The scale I use, you have to be barefooted and grasp an electrode/sensor in each hand....it's all hooked up to a lap top that gives out a full print out.

Sends electrical impulses throughout the body, reading resistance and impedance.

The free health station at my local Savon pharmacy (where you sit down and take your own blood pressure, etc.) gives the option to get your BMI (weight) and body fat percentage, too. My scale at home takes it as well--it is said to work best if you rub a little Water over the bottom of your feet first, but I don't notice a difference with that. My home scale matches Sav-on pretty wel.

The one difference I DO notice is that my BFP reads 2% higher first thing in the morning than it does at about 4-5pm. This is because we awaken in our most dehydrated state each morning. When you are well-hydrated towards the end of the day, the BFP reading is most favorable (unfortunately, the scale is NOT always most favorable at that time of day, LOL).

LAST - there are formulas (many from the military) online wherein you enter your age, gender, etc. and then some very specific body measurements (wrist, forearm, etc.). The results of these formulas virtually always match my home Body Fat scale read-out, too.

VERRRY LAST - You can also google "images of 30% body fat" or similar. Charts that show 6-8 different 25-30 year old women in swim suits come up and each is labeled with a percentage of body fat. Find the one that looks the most similar to you and this will be in your range, too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
