4 weeks post and I still PB

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post conversion and I still have, what I like to call, a ghost band. I get stuck on food and I PB it right back up. Does that ever go away?

The doc said I had a big callus around my stomach where the band was that he had to shave down and I have another on my esophagus. Part of the draw to the sleeve was no PBing...and after my band broke, I lost all restriction, and I didn't PB at all....suddenly with the surgery I do.

Anyone have any insight?

I'm guessing your innards are probably still swollen. I'd give it time and stick to pretty soft stuff well chewed.

I get it if I eat too fast - even if I think I was going slower. Try slowing it down even more

My surgeon was very conservative for band to sleeve revision patients the intro to solid food was 2 weeks slower than his normal protocol.

I think you might be doing too much or too fast or the wrong foods too early. It is NOT normal to vomit with the sleeve. The only times I have is when I wolfed food down too fast. Seriously consider calling your surgeon as this is not normal.

Thank you guys!!! This is happening even if I sip on milk to early in the morning. The surgeon said that I "will have residual band like effects for a while because there is so much damage". I am slowing down even more and keeping it soft. It is helping. I think PBing is keeping me swollen.

I had a band removed 5 years ago because of slippage, and it left a permanent stricture in the stomach where it had been placed (as if I still had a loose band there).

I'm 8 days post op for a sleeve and I just had an upper GI. The stricture is making my stomach still work like it has a band above the new tiny stomach. Right now it's an issue because it's very tight, but I'm hoping the inflammation will drop and I will not need it dilated.

Have you had an Upper GI to see what is really going on? Mine was specifically to check for leaks and my doctor does it as a routine step. In your case it might tell them what is happening as you sip in the morning (because they perform it after an 8 hour fast).

Also, it was just a few swallows of the liquid, not the huge cup of contrast.

You just might have to follow the liquid phase longer than the rest of us

I know if I eat too fast I will still slime. I don't spit up food, but I will spit up the jellyfish like stuff LOL.

I think us former bandsters do good on chewing food well, but I really did have to train myself to wait a few minutes in between actual bites. It is better at 2 months than it was at one month, so it may also have to do with residual swelling/healing.

Thanks for your help everyone. In the last few days it is already happening less and less. I think it is just that I am swollen. I am trying to be really good and not eat too fast so that it will stop happening and reduce the swelling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
