Hi everybody. I just had the sleeve on April 27, 2015 in Erie, PA. I live in Jamestown, NY and was wondering if there are any other people out there who live close to me?

@kathico Hi.....My journey is going pretty well. I was 6months out on April 27th. My recovery from surgery went way better than I anticipated. I am a big baby so I thought it would be horrible and it wasn't. My new tummy really tolerated almost anything I put in it. I did follow my docs orders to a T for the first 5 months I would say. I really wanted to utilize this tool I was given for all it was worth. I have vacationed in March and did great, came home I was down two pounds!! Was really happy about that. Even though my tummy will tolerate just about everything, I still try to put only good in it. I'm not always 100% there but I would say I am about 90% good now.

Besides my restriction I feel pretty normal. This is just my new way of life. I try to get to the gym or do something 3-4 times a week, and if that doesn't happen I don't beat myself up about it. I do get between 65-80grams of Protein in a day and most days I have about 72oz of liquid. I still log, track and weigh my food. Logging in my written journal is a must to keep me on track.

As of today I am down 94lbs. I really really wanted to be at 100lbs lost at 6 months but I am still pretty proud of myself. I have a gorgeous pair of black wedges that we bought for when I hit my 100lb loss. They are just sitting in the box taunting me, waiting to be worn. We are going on vaca May 22nd and I was hoping to be able to take them with me, but I am not sure if that will happen. My husband and 16yr old daughter are holding them hostage. LOL

I hope you are doing well with your journey. Good luck with everything, and I am usually on here daily at one time or another!! Keep posting and reading this is a great website!!!

I have found that a few things make me feel like my stomach is upset. I swear I can only put in less than 2Tbsp. Is it just me?

Zoey716 where are you located

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
