Gastric Bypass-less restriction than expected

Recommended Posts

Pre-op it took a lot of food to feel full. 8 weeks post-opI feel that I can eat more than I should be able to without feeling satisfied. I know the difference between full and satiated, I don't feel either. Last night I had 1/4 c of tenderloin and one serving of high protein/high Fiber crackers. Waited an hour, felt hungry again. Drank 16 oz of Water...waited the prescribed time. Ate a Dr. Kracker with 1.5 oz cheese. Waited another hour, drank, waited and ended the night with a Protein bar.

Today I woke up hungry. Drank a cup of coffee and 20 oz of Water. When it was time I had a scrambled egg, 1 oz ham and 1 oz cheese. I'm not hungry per se but I'm not full either. Was I wrong to expect to not be able to eat this amount of food without feeling overly full and uncomfortable?

Any suggestions beyond the golden rules of staying hydrated, taking small bites and chewing to smithereens would be appreciated. Thanks.

you may be either eating too fast or drinking too close to meals (before and after). You should try to take 1 bite per minute, using a full 25 minutes to eat. This should keep you full for 5 1/2 hours. Snacking is not recommended. Also, you shouldn't be drinking your calories, but getting them from solid food. My surgeon forbids Protein Drinks after the first two weeks post-op. Just some thoughts as to why you may be experiencing this. Good luck and keep us posted!

I was also told that if you think of a scale from 1-7 with 1 being really hungry ad 7 being really full, you should just to the left of the middle, somewhere between a 3 and 4. You shouldn't be really hungry but you should never be full either. I thought that was an interesting way to look at it.
