Stricture repair not working?

Recommended Posts

Had RNY on 2/10/2015 and have lost 57 lbs, and was doing good until about three weeks ago, when eating any kind of solid food, it seemed like it just wouldn't go down, lot of burping, hiccuping, reflux (no vomiting--have never vomited, have gotten queasy a few times). Dr. thought it was a stricture, so I had an endoscopy this morning, and sure enough had a very narrow opening, and they widened it with a balloon. Had no pain (was out for procedure) and went home, and was doing liquid Protein, but they said I could have soft foods for a few days, then go back to normal eating. I just tried 1/4 cup of refried Beans...and got the problem all over again--would it have closed up again in less than a day?post-253641-0-86456600-1431140508_thumb.jpg post-253641-0-16238100-1431140524_thumb.jpg post-253641-0-93557000-1431140541_thumb.jpg

From what I understand it not uncommon to have to have the procedure several times before it is successful.

Heard that, but--within the same day?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
