I'm a little over 3 weeks out and eating is a freaking chore! Also my Fluid intake hasn't been great because I feel like Water makes me nauseous. I've been drinking Powerade zero but the fake sugar is messing up my poor stomach. It just seems like I'm screwed with everything, really hoping things start to look up....

On the Fluid front: Try some sugar free Popsicles. They each have 4 oz of liquid. I used flavored drops in my Water to make it easier. I had a hard time finding the right temp for Water. At first it had to be cold, then a bout a month later i could start having it warm with tea

As far as eating - it will continue to be a chore in my opinion. I am NOT a cook so that may be part of it. . I am over a year out and I hate eating. This is the one side effect I didn't expect. I actually don't mind it - I rarely focus on food now. I eat because I have to. I have no cravings; food tastes good I just don't really like the act of eating.

Good luck.

Eating and drinking were a huge chore for me for the 1st 4 months. I really wished I could go a whole day without doing either. But that changed. I finally felt normal after 4 months and have enjoyed food ever since.

As for fluids, I could not tolerate Water or artificial sweeteners...they both hurt my sleeve. So I never bothered with the "sugar free/diet" crap. I drank 100% fruit juice, regular sports drinks (Powerade, lifewater, Vitamin water, and pedialyte), skim milk and herbal Decaf teas. The juice and sugary drinks I diluted 1/2 and 1/2 with water because everything tasted too sweet to me anyways. The real sugar obviously did not impede my weight loss since I lost 100 pounds (my goal was 88 pounds) in less than 9 months.

Even today I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners and I usually go for the real thing, in moderation.

I had the same problem that you did with Water making me feel nauseous. Even though I had no issues with restriction and could drink Protein drinks with large swallows it was just something about Water.< /p>

This continued all the way through week three and week four postop.

Oddly, at week five postop I forced myself to start drinking more water (constipation, gout) and used a watch with timer (love my new Apple Watch) and set for 15 minute countdown after each drink of water (normal swallows not just sips).

With that adjustment, I am now able to get comfortably approximately 60 ounces of water intake per day.

Whether because of my new regimen, or that perhaps my body adapted at the 5+ week mark, it's working out for me now.

So, keep trying to take more water in every day and see if it becomes more comfortable as time goes by.

I'm 13 weeks post-op and have virtually no interest in food.

I have my Protein shakes because I know I have to. I drink my Water because I know I have to. I eat because I know I have to.

I have what I assume are the new versions of "cravings"... Potato chips, flaky pastry and quiche to name but three. Most of the time the cravings pass without being satisfied.

But if it weren't for the cravings, my interest in eating would be negligible.

Even the fact that I'm an ex-chef who can make a gourmet meal from whatever is in your fridge/freezer/pantry doesn't help.

Eating just doesn't interest me.

Of course, that could all change as time goes by. But for now, I have to sit here sipping my Protein shake while my work mate devours his Big Breakfast - Two eggs, sausages, double bacon, grilled Tomato, 2 hash browns and buttered sourdough. (It's 0845 here).

Enjoy!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
