Best Calcium Citrate? Non-chewable recommendations needed!

Recommended Posts

2 1/2 weeks post by-pass. I can't stand chewable Calcium Citrate, anyone recommend a non-chewable 500mg alternative? The ones I have are about the size of a thick quarter, and taste really gross to me. Thanks in advance.

I was told to take viactiv and they are palatable. Check with your center. I also took the tablets & they were nasty! But you definitely need a chewable for awhile. Also my nutritionist said if I ate dairy and drank milk daily they weren't as worried as if I was a patient that didn't.

Thanks, Inspiration and Shoshanna, very helpful information! I will check with my center again, and will check out your recommendations. I appreciate it, Tuesday will be three weeks post surgery.

@ Here's what I use and it tastes like the old fashion orange creamsicles. I love it! You can buy it at Walmart for $6.97 and it lasts 16 days taking 500mg twice a day (1/2 cap full).

My center's nutritionist has mentioned Citracal Petites and that they are small enough for most of their patients. I bought a calcium citrate powder that I can just have with a bite of something, basically tasteless in a very small quantity of powder.< /p>

Yes, this is exactly what I have! My Vitamin D 5000 units capsule is so tiny that it's totally swallowable. If I can stay away from anything chewable I will because I get so sick of things so quickly and they make me gag. My mom is the same way, so I blame her. I'm so grossed out by my sublingual B12 that I might have to go to the Nascobal, which is a $25 copay every month, whereas the SL B12 from costco is so much more economical. I might get to the point where I'll give myself the shots.

It's so small and tastes like a minty breath mint. Very very pleasant and not chalky at all.????

I'm actually using Bariatric Advantage chewable tablets, not "caramels." But before I started doing these my surgeon had me on the calcium citrate pills that are target brand. They dissolve quickly. Good luck!!

I myself dont like taking pills so my surgeon said i can take gummy vitamins, i have been able to find all of the pills in Gummy form with exception to my Iron pill and i have to say they are fantastic and they taste great too...its like your eating a gummy bear lol. The two brands i use are vitafusion for my multi Vitamin which also covers the daily folic acid amount i have to take and Vitamin C and spring valley for my Calcium and B12. They are awesome

My surgeon just recommended UPCAL D. It's a tasteless, odorless powder and very reasonable price. Check Amazon I get 120 packets for around $15. It can be sprinkled on food or added to drinks.

FYI, plain calcium citrate powder is about a quarter of the price, also on Amazon. I just put it on my tongue and wash it down with Water. I prefer to take my D separately, though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
