pjanes54 0 Posted August 16, 2007 Hey everyone! Thought I'd join all of you in the August banders! My surgery is 8/23!! I started my low/cal-low/fat and exercise routine and have lost 5lbs since Monday! My husband is doing this with me......hooray! It's not as difficult for me to cook for the kids when someone else is enjoying an evening of non-fat cottage cheese and carrots! I am 8/23, too! Tomorrow is the first day of the pre-op liquids. Yum. **attempting to stay positive** My surgery is scheduled for 11 AM and my doc likes his patients to spend the night at the hospital (ugh). How about you? I'm afraid to eat it still. My doc. said only liquids that could go thru a straw without using the straw. He said pureed foods at weeks 3-4. Course, it would probably be fine since I didn't get filled during surgery it's just the swelling & healing part I'm worried about.
zuchinno 4 Posted August 16, 2007 I spent the night at the hospital... Trust me. It's just something you wanna do. I had a lot of air trapped in my abdomen and I started barfing up the Simethicone cocktail they gave me for it... which was terrifying as the contractions in your stomach from vomiting can rip your stitched and end you back up in the OR. But since I was in the hospital overnight there was a doctor who could come in and help me immediately and administer a stomach medicine through IV. Also, they gave me sleepytime medicine through the IV which was a godsend.

I just pureed something that's already soup and watered it down a little more with some broth. It's definitely straw-sippable though. No ill effects after two days of that soup, if you're wondering. claramae 0 Posted August 16, 2007 Hey Falls To Fast; I know what you mean. I am 58 years. I am almost over the age limit that they will do. Anyway, my date is Aug.27. I have struggled with this decision also. I am diabetic and have arthirtus very bad in hip and knees. Had left knee replaced and right hip replaced. I still have pain in both. I want to see my granddaughters grow up. That is what is pulling me to this decision. I am on my liquid diet now for 3 days. I have lost 5.2 pounds and that is a real motovator for me. I am sure you will make the right decision. Good Luck,
tismepatti 0 Posted August 16, 2007 I was also happy to be in the hospital overnight. The car ride home was painful, luckily I stayed at my sisters for 2 nights. she is only 15 minutes from the hospital. Make sure to bring a throw pillow to hold to your stomach for the ride home. pmmegm 0 Posted August 16, 2007 PJanes.... I started my pre-op diet on Monday. It's a low/cal-low fat diet which I supplement meals with the Protein Drinks. I am eating celery, carrots, non-fat cottage cheese....you probably know the drill. It really hasn't been that bad....I dreaded starting it! I also started using my YMCA membership and took on the tread mill. I have lost 7 pounds! We should try to stay in touch......have any ideas how?

Hi pmmegm, My pre-op is liquids only: cream Soups, slim fast, protein drinks, yogurt smoothie-full liquids and today was day one. It's been okay--it feels like I have taken the next necessary step, and it feels terrific. Good for you on your YMCA membership! You may PM me or email me, I would love to stay in touch with you...we can compare notes and swap encouragement!
