How many days after gastric bypass should the staples be removed?

I can't say for bypass, (I had the SADI laproscopic) but I imagine healing is similar. I had my post-op and staples out at 10 days. One of the areas where a port was opened back up a bit after they were pulled so we just did steri-strips for another few days. The rest were well healed.

Here's my delemma: I live in a country with socialized medicine and my first followup after surgery is 22 days post surgery. I think that's along time to wait to remove staples. from what I remove about most skin staples is that they a shoukd removed at about 10 days. Waiting longer couldn created more pronounced scars. Do you agree?

Staples where? I had nothing that needed removed, my incisions were all dissolving inside and glued on the outside.

But if you have staples holding your incisions together on the outside, yes waiting too long will make them harder to remove for sure!

I don't think there should be any staples that need removing. I certainly didn't have any. My first post-op was also 3 weeks after surgery,

@@Band07 @aelovelady Each surgeon is different I had staples used to close the port sites (external). Just like I had staples when I had both C-Sections.

@Allenby I think at 22 days you may run the risk of the skin healing to the staples. I would definitely call and ask to have them out sooner. Most of mine sutures were healed by the 10 day mark (my appt was moved up because the doc had a schedule change) they were intially going to be removed at 13 days. I would think by 15 you would be well healed. As for scarring there is a product called Mederma that works pretty well on reducing the appearance of scars. You can start applying it once the staples are out and the wound is completely closed. It takes a few months (2x/day) but it does work. I used it following a knee surgery I had years ago and I'm currently using it on my scars and my daughter's scar under her chin.

I had external staples after my RNY. They were removed at my 2 week check up and replaced with steri-strips for another 10 days. The steri-strips were allowed to come off on their own. At 2 weeks, the staples came out very easily and painlessly.

I guess I should add, at 5 months out, you would have to know that the staples had been there to see any marks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
