Aloha everyone! So I'm a newbie here and I truly have enjoyed reading posts and getting fabulous info. So for me, I haven't had surgery yet, in fact I am still going through my classes with Kaiser. I have no clue as to surgery dates as I haven't even been presented to the surgeons yet. 5/29 is my final classes then presentation to surgeons in June. However, I was told that here in Hawaii there is such a huge waiting list that I would have to wait until next March for surgery. With me being a teacher, summer surgery is my best option....SO that like over a year to wait until surgery...now that's a major bummer!!! Any thoughts? Words of advice?

Wow! A years waiting list, I was upset at having to wait 7 weeks after completing all of the requirements. My insurance would make me redo everything if my surgery is not completed within a year because so many things can change. I would say check with the doctor and your insurance companies policy and requirements for bariatric surgery I had 6 consecutive monthly nutritional visit I had to complete before I met with the surgical team.

Good luck

Kahala 18, I totally understand. I too will have the surgery after 1 yr wait. I live in Sweden and summer time they only do emergency operations :-\

Ill be on a 12 month waiting list as i need to go through a waiting time with my insurance here in Australia. Ill be getting my babd removed and then waiting 3 months more to get the gastric bypass done. Such a long wait but well worth it.

Use that time to help you adjust to new dietary requirements. Practice taking baby bites (my dietician says about half the size of you thumb nail) and chewing it to mush before swallowing. (I can't even chew a single piece of Trident without biting the inside of my mouth) Keep working on your diet and exercise, and most importantly, don't get discouraged. Come talk to us, and any support you have at home. Have you told your students? Kids make a great cheer leading squad.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
