Thank you so much, it all helps to have such support.

We just got back from the visit with the surgeon. He has told us the cyst on the pancreas IS BENIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!

Now we need to get through the surgery, scheduled for 2pm our time on Friday. Walking with the Lord.....

Have you seen this new shake for pre-surgery? It is called "Impact Advanced Recovery" by Nestle Health Science. The patient drinks 3 shakes a day, for improved recovery. It is a prescription-only shake, vanilla flavored. The surgeon's assistant gave us a box of 15 (drinking 3 per day for 5 days prior to surgery).Apparently the difference between it and other shakes are that it has Arginine, Omega-3 fatty acids, and dietary nucleotides, which are proven to help the body recover from major surgery. It is supposed to help the immune system. And diabetics can have it as well, you would have to alter the diabetic diet a little, though. Just some news for those undergoing surgery...ask about it!

More news to come....again thank you everyone, it means so much....Grace sufficient for the day.....

I'm glad the cyst was benign. Although this is a very trying time, you have good reason to anticipate a positive outcome.

I'll be thinking of you and your husband on Friday, @Canyonbaby. Good luck.

I worked in a cardiology office for a bit. We would have never treated a client that way. It is unacceptable. Surgical scars, in fact any scars, are proof that you are a survivor. They are like a badge of honor that you have been through the battle and come out alive. I would suggest that since this was in a hospital you report it to patient relations. Every hospital has a department that is specifically for situations like this. They educate the staff and when needed disciplinary action may be taken. No patient should be made to feel that they are a freak. I think the staff involved need to be educated on patient respect and proper treatment. Remember you are not a freak. You are a survivor and should be treated with respect. I doubt these medical "professionals" would handle half of what some patients go through with such bravery. Hugs to you, and a virtual smack to the back of the head for the hospital staff.

I'm very sorry that you feel you were treated disrespectfully. Remember that hospital reimbursement from Medicare is tied directly to things like patient satisfaction scores. If you feel that the care you received was lacking, you DO have the power to help them see the error of their ways by reporting it. In addition to writing a letter, contact the hospital and see if they'll get their third party vendor to send you a patient satisfaction survey (they typically send them automatically to patients who had major procedures, but I'm not sure about things like tests). Then, share your experience. Many of these surveys supply space for the patient to give specific feedback on each question, and the questions always include one about the performance/bedside manner of a specific subset of staff (such as nurses, etc.).

@@CanyonBaby I'm so glad to hear this bit of good news on Dave. You've been on my mind and you both are in my thoughts and prayers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
