It will be here before you know it! Try to make some habit changes now if you can. It will lessen your nervousness and make the post op period an easier transition. Examples are walking, no drinking with meals, chewing slowly, etc. How exciting! Best of luck to you!

I was not required to do a liver-shrinking diet but if you are, it will not be easy! My view is, do what you are told to do but don't bother punishing yourself by doing more! Don't make things harder than they need to be!

I was put on one of those liver shrinking diets I had to have yogurt only for three days. Don't be nervous lap band surgery is the easiest out of all the major surgeries no cutting of your insides.

I'm 32 days before! I'm slowly working on my goals. (No straws, reduce caffeine, no eating drinking before after eating). Baby steps!!! We didn't get where we are over night, so we're not going back over night! You can do it! Don't be nervous. Be excited on the days to come ☺️

I just had my surgery May 13, 2015 (This is my first post/reply)

Liver shrink was a challenge but I stuck to it. Weight just flew off those 2 weeks so It was encouraging and it has helped me stay focused post op.

Any surgery is scary but to be honest, it wasn't that bad. I'm 8 days post op now and so far so good. I will be thinking of you on June 8th and good luck!

I didn't start to de-fat my liver till 10 days prior. 30 days is way too soon.

I did my 'liver shrink' diet for 14 days pre-op. It was fine - totally do-able - ! I was actually quite anxious about it - mores than the surgery itself. (No solid food for 2 weeks??!) but had no trouble sticking to it. I kept myself VERY busy at work (I'm a teacher) and on the go... just took it one day at a time and kept reminding myself that this was temporary and that I COULD DO THIS!

It got weepy and fatigued at the 12 day mark - just sick to death of Protein shakes and longing for something savoury, rather than sweet. I blinked and then it was surgery day - the day my life changed for the better!

Believe me - as a food addict/lover if I can do it, you can too. :-) You are WORTH IT!

Hi,

good luck with your surgery. It's the best decision I ever made. I got my life back.

My doctor had a different approach. He felt if I could go on a major pre-op fast or diet.... I probably wouldn't need the band. I was self pay so I didn't have the insurance company requirements.

Having said that.... It's important to listen and follow your own doctor's direction and that of his staff. Post op my doctor's staff became more important than he did at times. I didn't have any problems with my band other than of my own making (making my band too tight thinking I could lose weight faster. It actually slowed my weight loss down and almost put me in the hospital).

I was banded March 30, 2007. The band is one "tool" of many (like exercise, journaling, etc) It isn't a magic cure. But I definitely think I needed it. Before the band, I was physically hungry 24/7. Now I deal with head hunger but I'm not giving into it. I have to work on it daily.

Best of luck on your journey.

Josie

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
