Hi all-

I had my NUT appointment a few days ago and based on my blood work they encouraged me to start taking a daily Multivitamin, Biotin, and extra B12. I've been doing that for about 3 days and I can't find a way to take them without getting nauseous afterwards. I've tried eating before, eating after, and drinking them with milk. Has anybody else had this problem? I just know if they're making me sick now, they'll most definitely make me sick after surgery when all I can intake is liquids and my stomach is significantly smaller. Any advice?

Thanks!
Brittany

I can't take Vitamins early in the morning. Maybe try taking them before bed.

Multivitamins hate me. B12 I take in the morning sublingually with a drink (sugar free Red Bull- don't follow my example) and it never makes me sick. I take an Iron supplement and a Multivitamin right before bed so I fall asleep before it starts making me sick and I don't really notice it. I have tried Multivitamins with food, without food, at all times of the day, and the only way I can get them in is at night. I also often give up on it and take twice the amount of chewy Flintstones Vitamins for adults. Supposedly you aren't supposed to take these after surgery, but I took them starting at about 3 months.

I believe they also make specific bariatric surgery Vitamins which may be less rough on the stomach, so perhaps look into that.

I had the same issue and my nutritionist switched me to this Vitamin and I haven't had any issues. It's called Rainbow Light 50 plus mini tablet. You can order from Amazon. I take 2 in the morning and then another later in the day. Never once has it made me sick. And I of course I bought a ton of the Vitamins at the surgeons office before I knew they would make me sick. I should really give them away.

Good luck

I had to switch Vitamins a few times before I found one I could handle. You may just have to try a few.

I was thinking about asking this question a couple of weeks ago. I've usually shied away from.multivitamins for this reason. I took a prenatal Vitamin when pregnant with my first son and was nauseated the whole time. I thought it was just me. Good to know the tricks to try. I'm pre op. So I'm soaking up any info I can. Thanks.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
