...did it take you to figure out your hunger/fullness levels? I know everyone is different, just looking for an average.

I am 5 days post op and there are times I feel like I could drink a huge Protein shake and times I'm not hungry and just want water!

Hi and congrats! I had my bypass on 03/11 and I am still figuring it out slowly. They cut the nerves when they do this to us so, it takes a long time to really feel anything again. Once you start eating actual food, just go slow and see how your pouch feels. Mine is weird because, five minutes after a bite goes down and I think I can do another, I'm all of a sudden SURE I cant do one more bite! It's a learning process for sure. Also, they say this will even change because the scar tissue will loosen over time and it won't be so tight like it is now forever so, we just gotta roll wit it! Good luck and keep up the good work!

I'm 13 days out and today is the first day Iv had any interest in eating anything at all. I introduced a little bit of cottage cheese but only maybe an ounce or 2, I have no idea what full feels like yet but I'm just going super slow for now.

Band07, you have the right idea too. Just keep the small meals frequent, every one to two hours if your only doing a couple ounces right now. Remember, you have to make that new stomach work or it will never learn and eating will continue to be really hard. Take it slow, see how you feel after each bite but, really make that effort to eat because, you don't want to rely on shakes too much, your body and stomach want food. I really felt much better once I was off shakes and got all I needed from actual foods and my Vitamins ofcorse! Even just two months out, I can tell the difference in the way my pouch is handling food and the scar tissue isn't so terribly tight anymore. Good luck to you both!

I believe it's a long term process of listening to our bodies. Over time you figure out the cues and it will get easier to know that I don't need to eat anymore right now. I'm a little over six months out and I had 2 more pieces of shrimp on my plate. It should have been easy to eat it and not waste it but my body knew I did not need to have that. I started recognizing cues at about

2 months out. It took some vomiting and papaya enzymes and sliming and feeling uncomfortable to learn. It's still a learning process today almost 7 months out. But those sliming and vomiting episodes related to food are very few. Hope this finds you well.

I am 7 months post op and I can tell you it is still trial and error. Some days eating is a pleasure and others it is a struggle. If you choose slider foods which is easy to do, you find yourself hungry more often.

If you stick to good Proteins and good carbs you feel fuller longer.

I do great on my meals but I still have one premier Protein drink that has 30 grams every morning religiously. It helps me get kick started on my Protein intake for the day and I never and I mean never miss my protein goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
