Brave enough to cut hair SHORT now!

Recommended Posts

I LOVE the pixi cut. It looks so flattering on you.

When I hit goal I felt like I needed something new too. I've already done the short hair thing...hell, I've had my head shaved completley bald for two summers in a row, but I am now 2 years of growing it out and didn't want to start that process over again. So instead I went from a dark sultry brunette to a smoking hot blond.

Weight loss + tan + blond hair= so much summer fun I can't stand it!!

Hello ladies! I wanted to see if women who are losing/have lost weight after WLS are now more brave about cutting their hair! I know for me, I always felt like my hair was my curtain. I always hid behind it because I am a natural blonde, and therefore no matter how BIG I was I always felt like atleast I had pretty hair! HA, sad way to think I know. Anyways, I am ALWAYS hearing people say that they could "Never pull off a short hair cut" because their face is not made for short hair. My hair has been short for a few years now, mainly because I have two small children and it's SO much easier...but I also cut it when I was at my heaviest. I now have a short pixie, and I feel liberated!

Your hair is just adorable!!! But then I'm in love with the pixie cut--in case you hadn't noticed! LOL! Can't wait until I'm that thin again!!

@@woo woo, Yes, I have layers in my hair and they do help. I have only started wearing it curly for the past 6 months or so. I will try the curling Iron, thanks! I am going to straighten it for the big day tomorrow...I don't want them to think they're operating on Shirley Temple! Thanks for the advise!

my hair has natural curl and I have started noticing it thinning at top where it tends to part. My hair has been about 3-4 inches below my shoulders. I cut a couple of inches off and added a long layer to lighten the weight and add some fullness to the top. My hair was one of the few things I always was complimented on since I was little. It is now greyer and that hair tends to have a mind of its on. I put a non-permanent color on about every three months and was going lighter during the summer the last couple of years. this year I may go a little darker to help the thinning ;( I am starting to see (post-surgery). Dr said I wouldn't probably notice it but I had thick hair and in the last 15 years it has thinned out and now I am dealing with more thinning. It sucks but I am OK with losing some as long as it comes back - hats are in!

@@jane13 It will come back. I think the frustrating thing for women is that most of us wear our hair pretty long and that means it takes a LONG time for the new, baby hair to catch up to our old hair. I cut off a LOT of my hair a couple months post-op in preparation for the inevitable loss. I think it did make the loss less noticeable. But now that all my baby hairs are coming in and are about 1.5-2 inches long, it looks a little silly. If I were a guy and kept my hair short, the new hair would already be blended in with the old.

My hair before weight loss and then after. I didn't think short would ever look good but it does..and it's so easy to take care of. I also think I hid behind the hair like I hid behind the fat.

I recently cut my hair very very short and had it layered because I am one of the unlucky who has had massive Hair loss. It started for me at month two and around month 6 when everyone told me it would stop or slow down it started falling out even faster.

My Protein, thyroid and Iron is great, have had labs checked multiple times now. Mine hair loss is coming from a combination of massive weight loss, two major surgeries within 8 months and of course I am in the middle of menopause.

It looks so much cuter short and frames my face plus I am not as anxious about the hair loss because all the new growth is popping in all over.

Yes I have loose skin where my double chins used to be. Hoping it will tighten up some. The good news is I have to wear a hard cervical collar for the next twelve weeks and right now it hides my turkey neck! LOL

I wasn't brave enough to cut my hair for years , now after surgery 3 years later people were talking about how much weight I had lost & noticed the difference in my clothes & started commenting & I have even had some guys say that they couldn't see my face because of my hair also I started getting real bad headaches , & I needed a change for my self so I cut it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
