Brave enough to cut hair SHORT now!

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies! I wanted to see if women who are losing/have lost weight after WLS are now more brave about cutting their hair! I know for me, I always felt like my hair was my curtain. I always hid behind it because I am a natural blonde, and therefore no matter how BIG I was I always felt like atleast I had pretty hair! HA, sad way to think I know. Anyways, I am ALWAYS hearing people say that they could "Never pull off a short hair cut" because their face is not made for short hair. My hair has been short for a few years now, mainly because I have two small children and it's SO much easier...but I also cut it when I was at my heaviest. I now have a short pixie, and I feel liberated!

I cut off all my hair around 2 months post-op, not because of any new-found confidence, but because I was worried my inevitable Hair loss would be more noticeable with longer hair.

I cut my hair short because I was going through some physical issues and needed to change things up for my own sanity along with suffering from Hair loss, which started when I was about 7 months post banded. And..also because I knew that I was small enough a year ago to accomodate a short hairstyle.

I've had nothing but positive comments with my new short hair. I love it this way...and I love your haircut as well @ga_crystal.

I got myself a short and sassy bob around the 6 month mark and I never looked back. I LOVE me with short hair. LOL I'd had long hair since forever (donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths 3 times) but it was falling out in handfuls and looked dreadful. I decided "eff it" and told my stylist to cut it short. She asked me like 3 times "are you sure?". LOL I think being more comfortable with myself and my appearance had a lot to do with my deciding to take the plunge.

Your picture looks fantastic- I love your short hair!

I totally know how you feel about hiding behind your hair. No matter how fat I was I could say, well at least I have pretty green eyes and blonde hair. Well now I'm thin and have bad hair (still have good eyes, lol). I like my hair past my shoulders at about armpit length, however now that it's finally growing back, the thicker stuff only comes to the top of my ears. I don't have the courage to cut it super short, but maybe in a few weeks I'll try it a bit shorter...

I have always wanted to go short, but didn't because of the same reasons. I have gradually gone shorter. Now that I am down 100 lbs, I think I, too, will go for it for the summer. Thanks for sharing!!

I have done the opposite. I have had Ellen Degeneres hair since 1978. I did not feel pretty enough for long hair and punished myself my keeping it extremely short. I got it cut one more time before my sleeve surgery in December of 2013 in anticipation of hideous Hair loss, and aslo decided to embrace the grayish white that was taking over my natural strawberry blonde hair.

As it turns out, I was one of the fortunate few who did not experience hair loss. The ramped up Protein and outstanding nutrition have given me the thickest, strongest hair I have had since my hippy days in the late 1960's. So, I have let it grow and grow. It is nearly shoulder length now and soft and beautiful. I also found some hair color that matches the strawberry blonde that is still in my eyebrows. Losing my excess weight has given me a new perspective on how to treat myself.

I am a domestic violence survivor, and one of the best points of insight that I got from counseling at a women's shelter was that sometimes we get so used to being abused that we begin to abuse ourselves. Baratric surgery has been an eye-opener for me. At 63, I have the best hair I have had in 38 years. I am always happy to hear when others are emboldened to try something new, and to re-invent themselves.

I cut mine when my Hair loss started to be noticeable (by me) and I didn't want it to look stringy. Since then it's back just fine, but my weight loss gave me the umph of confidence to go shorter, and I love it too! Freedom describes it well.

I'm actually looking forward to possibly changing up my look. I have long dark curly hair which is super easy to hide behind. I would never in a million years consider cutting it and showing all my double chin! (Like they can't already see it, ha!) it's one of my things on my post surgery rewards list! Trying to think of other ways to reward myself rather then a nice dinner out. You look great! Have fun with the new style!

I have always had short hair but have recently started growing it out. It is chin-length now and extremely curly (ringlets). Straightening it is such a pain, but I think it helps with making my face look slimmer. I am so worried about what my double chin is going to look like after I lose weight in my face. Have any of you dealt with a saggy under-chin? My surgery is tomorrow, June 10th. Your haircut looks really cute on you.

@@Idalola have you gotten layers to accommodate your curly hair?

If you get the right cut it won't add weight to your face when curly.

You can also use a wand type curling Iron to spot curl which will tame the curl too.

Good luck tomorrow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
