Day 8 - Is puréed food too early

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my gastric sleeve operation on 28/04/2015 and this is my 8th day post op and I am really worried that I may have damaged my sleeve as I just mixed 2tsp of mashed potato with gravy and mixed it up into a paste and I ate about a quarter of it and then left the rest but now I am so worried that I may have damaged the staple lines?

Please can somebody offer me any advise.

Thank you

@@daveylee - I don't think you would have damaged your staple lines with 2tsp of mashed potatoes. However, please make sure you are following your surgeons dietary guidelines. Every physician/nutritionist seems to have slightly different steps post surgery. IT is vital to follow those instructions and to stay the course. It can get tiring, and frustrating at the beginning not being able to eat what you want, but trust me, and I'm sure anyone else who is going to comment - stick with it and stay strong!! You've got this!!! :)

Wishing you the best & if you have any questions or need some encouragement, feel free to send me a msg and I'll be happy to help. :)

You will likely be okay, since what you ate wasn't at all solid. I was allowed greek yogurt at 8 days post-op and that has a pretty similar consistency to what you ate, I would think. But I 100% agree with @Zoey716. You should work very hard to stick to your specific surgeon's/nutritionist's plan moving forward. There are real health risks involved with advancing too quickly through the food phases.

@@daveylee I guess everyone's different but mashed potatoes and gravy among other things is pretty much what got me in needing the surgery. My first pureed meal post op (surgery 05/04/2015) will not include anything that aided in my 400lb lifestyle

Mashed potato and gravy is what I have been told to eat in the puréed stage. It isn't something I just chose to have.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
