What helps you deal with cravings?

Recommended Posts

I just stumbled on a way that helps me deal with cravings. I let ice melt in my mouth. It sounds stupid, but cravings have been a big issue with me, especially when I am not hungry. Having ice in a glass keeps me cool and distracts me so I don't eat what I don't want to eat. Gum chewing works OK too, but it doesn't last as long. Talk about a cheap fix!:)

What works for you?

Annie--that's a great idea--I'll have to try that! My cravings can really get the best of me sometimes. And it's all in my head--I know I'm not actually hungry--I just always used to snack on something while I watched tv at night, so I still can't get that out of my head. I will definately try your suggestion! I am afraid to chew gum now, because I always end up swallowing my gum without even realizing it, and am scared that it would get stuck and really cause some problems!

It depends on the craving. I don't really crave a lot of things anymore so if I do have a rare craving, I go out and have it depending on what it is. If it is really high carb, high fat, high calorie, I just eat something so I am not hungry at all and the craving goes away.

I will have to try the ice cubes. I do snack on fruit juice popsicles once in a while. I haven't done gum...my surgeon or dietician told me gum isn't allowed...causes gas. I don't know if true, but that is what I had been told

My dietician stresses NO NUTS.

I still eat them with no problem. Although, the nurse who works with my surgeon had the surgery and got a peanut stuck...she ended up in the ER and had to have her band emptied....PS, she says she still eats them especially Peanut M&Ms....LOL

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
