lepez 0 Posted June 18, 2007 I am a pre lap band surgery patient and went for my consult last month. I have a beautiful 3 year old boy but have put on a ton of weight. I would like one more child so I asked my doctor about getting pregnant with the band and he said it was better to get the band, lose the weight and then get pregnant. I have a few questions though. If you can't take pills then how do you take prenatal Vitamins? I also understand that vomitting can produce pressure which can result in slippage. What happens if I vomit for the first 12 weeks? I ate saltine crackers with my son but I understand that they are not advised with the band. If I immediately have it unfilled then would it be ok? Would it really be the same stomach capacity that I had pre surgery? Can the port get displaced by the nine month stomach? Did you guys have any problems? If you had to do it all over again would you guys get the lapband before or after the baby is born. Thanks for your input!!!!!!
Jachut 487 Posted June 18, 2007 I can take any pills I need to, big Vitamins and capsules included, and you wont be tight during pregnancy anyway probably. There is some risk of vomiting day and night for 12 months and doing some damage - how were you during your first pregnany? Is that likely for you? Just imagine though, the joy of being pregnant and glowing, with a cute little basketball tummy! Instead of being like a beached whale, bloated and swollen. It would sure tempt me to lose the weight first! And you'll have a much healthier pregnancy with less risk of complication if you are at a more normal weight. I was pretty nauseaus for the first 12-14 weeks but did not vomit alot, however, I lived on saltine crackers and prenatal Vitamins for a while. The doctor said that saltine crackers were not ok so I don't know what else could help with the nausea. I have to say that the thought of looking really cute pregnant is a bonus and I WOULD look like a beached whale if I did not lose the weight. I also gained 27 lbs. in Water weight last pregnancy so the thought of being 43 lbs. heavier now is scary to me. Thanks again for responding.
Jachut 487 Posted June 18, 2007 I cant imagine why crackers and such would not be OK during pregnancy, but then they dont do high protein/low carb in Australia for banded patients. You're not likely to be physically unable to eat them. I had MS with my third pregnancy and sea bands really helped me. But I also did the crackers before getting out of bed in the morning thing and it really helped.
