Hi everyone. I went to my 7 day post op appt. Im still having pain. Really bad pain like the day of surgery. Im having pain under my ribs, shoulder, and arm. The Dr. said the pain should be about gone and that the pain might be coming from port sight and thats normal. My question is, how long after surgery did your pain last and what is some tricks to make them go away?

Also I lost 14lbs in 7 days. I pray for continuous lost.

I appreciate any feedback on this matter.

I am on day 4, yesterday I was still having trouble standing up from a sitting position, getting out of bed, getting in and out of my car, etc. I could do these things but it was painful. Today I am feeling much better. I got myself a bottle of Tylenol so I could have painkillers without the narcotics, and that seems to be doing fine for the pain. I still hurt a little but its no longer much of a distraction.

Congrats on your surgery! You'll get the hang of it in no time! I'm still adjusting myself and it's about 8 weeks now. I had a lot of chest/shoulder pain up until last week to be honest. I tried gas x strips and drinking more slowly. My doctor didn't me being on the pain killers for too long because they can make you constipated which can cause similar symptoms. I would say if in 24 to 48 hours you truly feel something is wrong, I would phone them and ask for another appointment. Some people heal slower. I would walk around more that often helps. Hope you are feeling better soon!

I got the dreaded left shoulder pain around day four or five -- before that it was just incisional discomfort. I did a lot of walking and for the gas pain windmill arms helped. Also the "happy baby" yoga pose while in bed -- goal was to move around as much as possible to dislodge trapped gas from the inflation that took place at surgery time. Get some one to do karate chops on your back, etc. a heating pad provided some comfort. Gas-X etc. is for gas in your stomach; this is gas in the abdominal cavity.

I hurt pretty bad for the first 2 weeks. Practically unbearable pain for the first 72 hours. It got better for me around week 3.

I got banded on August 4th and the pain from the gas is subsiding, however my chest feels a little tight it's not all the time but it comes and goes. I find when I pat my chest and burp a little it slightly goes away but not as much as I would like. So my question is what is causing the pain? Excess gas? Or is my band too tight? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
