One year anniversary and struggling to get last 20 pounds off

Recommended Posts

I am 11 months out from gastric bypass and have lost 65 pounds total. I am needing to lose another 20-30 pounds. I have been stuck at my current weight for well over 3 months. It just won't come off. Any tips? Am I not getting enough Protein? Too many carbs maybe? I do not feel I over eat at any one setting. I eat small portions but possibly I am eating too many sugars/carbs throughout the day. Overall, I just don't feel I eat over 1000 calories a day so I can't figure out why I am not losing anymore. Should I switch to 3 Protein shakes a day and only one meal? Or try to get 3 shakes in regardless of what I eat? Some have said I am not getting enough Protein. I am grateful for what I have lost and feel wonderful. I just don't want to have done such a major surgery and life change and not do it to the full measure. I am exercising, although some weeks it is not 5 days a week. Maybe I can get more consistent with that. Any help is appreciated!

Can you post an average food day? It may help others understand better what your Protein vs carb/ sugar intake is. How many grams of protein are you getting in each day?

I wouldn't be drinking any Protein Shakes. You should be getting all of your Protein from solid food at this point.

I'm kinda in a similar situation. I'm 1-1/2yr. And I've not lost anything in 9 or 10 months to really amount to anything. I've lost 107lbs an need 50 more gone. But i no what needs to be done. Being a nurse I should no better, but it's very hard. :( you got to go back to the basics start as if you just came home from the surgery. drinks lots!!! But not during eating. Then for 1 week go to NO carbs then you should go into ketosis. Then ad in low carbs and then if your not getting enough Protein go to a shake. But very important limit your carbs... another important advise is LOG EVERYTHING YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH. IT'S THE KEY TO SEEING WHAT YOUR ACTUALLY DOING RIGHT OR WRONG WITH FOODS.

I no i don't want to fall back into old habits and i did a little but I refuse to gain this weight back. I went thru to much. I hope this helps you. I'm always in need of advice.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
