Vikingsfan8178 62 Posted May 5, 2015 May 7th -- Thursday -- is the day. The nerves are hitting me big time today and I assume it will just get worse. It didn't help that I had my first "you don't need that surgery...do you know what you are doing?" comment today from a family member. The last thing I need is anyone planting seeds of doubt into my mind at this point. So, now I need some positive stuff before I run away from this whole thing
CanyonBaby 1,852 Posted May 5, 2015 If you know this is the best thing you can do for your situation, then be comfortable with it. Yes, there is always the chance of complications. That goes for just about anything. If you are comfortable with your surgeon and their ability, and their surgical team, then take comfort in that. This actually goes quite quickly, I am now at 5 months out, and can't believe how fast the time went. If you look at the challenges that face you as things that will pass quickly on your route to a healthy life, they WILL pass quickly. Look at them as things that MUST pass, pass them one day at a time, and soon you'll be over the worst of it, and enjoying a life full of possibilities. In the meantime you have plenty of support here! Good luck with your surgery, and keep us posted!
wascott 395 Posted May 6, 2015 My surgery date is June-22. I'm nervous about it but excited at the same time. I will lose this weight and get healthy again. I'm not doing it for my family. I'm doing it for me! Best of luck to you.
desertgirl_74 114 Posted May 6, 2015 I had these type of discussions with my mom right up until surgery day. She was truly worried about me having the surgery, but I kept reminding her that I was doing this for my health. Now since I made it through the surgery without incident and am actually feeling good she has calmed down quite a bit. I know I was making the right decision. Don't let the uninformed sway your judgement.
NCTRNL 25 Posted May 7, 2015 This is exactly why I am only telling people that need to know about my decision. I don't need anyone trying to influence my decisions. I know that the possibility of complications is NOTHING compared to the fact that there is a 100% of complications in my life if I keep doing what I am currently doing. I can't wait for my 6/2 surgery date. BRING. IT. ON.

Phoenix2015 6 Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) I was planning on telling anyone that asked and close friends. But one person in my life has completely ruined that for me. I work with him and felt that I could tell him anything. I knew he would try to discourage me but not to the point of making me feel bad. Now I will not tell anyone else before or after the surgery because I do not want to hear the negativity. I understand if you don't agree or support the decision but you don't have to constantly put someone down or sabotage the process. It's my decision, my life, my future and it will be my success. I will not allow negativity to drag me down. We're doing this for a reason, we aren't doing it for anyone else except ourselves. Can't wait to hear how the surgery went. VSG_Hopeful 51 Posted May 7, 2015 @@Phoenix2015, you are 100% on point. You're not doing this for anyone else but yourself, so their opinions don't count. If you're on YouTube, there's a woman named Clusie, she is hilarious. But she made a good point, there will always be people who "just don't get it". Don't let their misunderstandings become your problem.

Vikingsfan8178 62 Posted May 9, 2015 Surgery done Thursday morning. Back home now. Worst part for me so far is hiccups. Any suggestions on getting rid of those?
NewNewMe 277 Posted May 9, 2015 Surgery done Thursday morning. Back home now. Worst part for me so far is hiccups. Any suggestions on getting rid of those? Congratulations! I had my surgery a week before you. You will be amazed at how good you feel one week out. The hiccups may be from too much going on too quickly. Try taking smaller sips and slowing down a little.
