So now that my life doesn't revolve around food o find myself thinking about food alot...and don't know what to do with myself since I'm not eating. Does anyone else struggle with this? What do you do to keep your mind off of cravings? I'm 5 days post op so I have had nothing but liquids!!

Oh my gawd!!

It's AMAZING how much more there is to life than food and excess weight. Do a mud run, learn to Zumba, climb a mountain, buy a camera and explore your world, go paddle around a lake, strap on some roller blades, volunteer to walk dogs at the animal shelter, play some golf, ride a roller coaster, plant a garden, mow some lawns for the elderly, explore your city, go white Water rafting, zipline across a mountain top...

Go out and LIVE your life as you never have before. food is fuel, that's it. Once you figure that out, you will be SO MUCH more free.

Just for those little moments when you are just home for a little bit, or watching tv, the times we are usually eating, are the hardest! I completely understand!!!

But... Once you are able to eat real food and are off the liquids your cravings will likely calm down some. The reason they did for me was because food doesn't make me feel the same anymore. I used to be able to eat and get so full, and feel great, but bad at the same time! Lol

Now food is just here to make sure I have enough nutrients to get by. I think it's part physical (with our tiny tummies) and part mental!! I really rely on cheeses and Protein bars to help my cravings, and you will see that once you can have these things it doesn't take but just a little bit to fill you up!

Good luck, it does get better I promise!!!

Yes but it's not that simple. Not like flicking a light switch. Try Judith Beck and Martha Beck for some actual neuroplasticity to help change your brain.

"LIFE STARTS AFTER YOUR COMFORT ZONE" time to start doing new things, there's thousands of things you can try, photography, walking, hiking, riding a bike, helping your community, shelters, find a new hobby….it's hard in the beginning but then you're going to want more and more…just like food!!! GOOD LUCK.

I guess I was very lucky and VERY ready. It was "that easy" for me. I was done being fat. I was done eating myself to death. I was done being unhealthy and I was done watching everyone else live a full life while I made excuses.

I made the decision and I went for it. I am no one exciting or special. If I can, anyone can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
