Whoops- a craving...

Recommended Posts

So- today is my first niggling craving- I saw a snack food at work- has been there- but for some reason today I really want the crunch of it. I am doubling down on my Water just now- and will simply have to put it off for 2 reasons.

1) I am on the puree stage

2) I am forging a new behavior- not to snack- I could end up right where I was. So I am thinking of all the things i don't like about that snack- that it is crumby for example, and I have swallowed crumbs that made me choke and I hate that.

Gotta say- I'm surprised by this craving and how strong it is. I'm stronger though.

These cravings are common later on in your journey you will lose these cravings. What I did was for every snack I succumbed to I had to go up 100 stairs. That turned me off all Snacks.< /p>

Remember, after weight loss surgery, hunger is usually thirst in disguise. Keep your sleeve full of fluids and it will help you get through these cravings. And the longer you can go without giving in, the easier it gets. If you keep making the right choices, after a while you can watch people eat pretty much anything without being tempted. Hang tough, it gets easier!

Fruit and yogurt have carbs and carbs are stored in the liver. The goal of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver/burn all the stored carbs in your liver. My pre-op diet was basically Adkins phase 1 (high Protein, very low carb).

GOod for you @MissLiss for trying to change behaviors! That's what helps me a lot, and when i fall off the wagon those are the behaviors i know i need to return to. Having been successful with them in the past helps them be easier to re-start too.

I'm sorry to say though, many of us (myself included) did not lose the cravings, or did so only for a few months. Mine came back fiercely around month 5-6 and have stayed, and I'm learning to manage them. I did notice in your post you said "I saw a snack food at work..." and for me, seeing those things is a prime trigger. I try to either not have to see them as much now, or when i do see them and crave them immediately, try to remind myself that it's a visual trigger and two minutes earlier i wasn't thinking of going off-plan at all!

I read a great quote the other day; "I've come too far to take orders from a chocolate chip cookie!"

Good luck - hang in there.

ohhhh! cravings are the worst. i still fight the little demons in my head....because they are in my head ...they are not coming from my stomach...i gave in not long ago and had some cake at a dinner i was at... wrong choice.... a bite of it might have been ok...but no that wasn't good for me i had a bite then a bit later since the plate was still there i had some more and then a little more and that last bite made me sick. it was so stupid. and snacking is hard to fight - i am trying to replace it with Water and exercise like the other folks have suggested and it is helping to re-program my brain a bit.

Another trick I use is to make all my Snacks protein-based – nuts, meats, Jerky, Greek yogurt, cheese, etc. As long as I'm not eating carbs, they don't seem to affect my weight loss because they don't throw me out of ketosis.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
