tallen74 0 Posted May 4, 2015 3 years post-op with a total of 127 lbs. lost and I could not be happier! However, I would like to lose an additional 40 lbs. and cannot seem to be able to get past the after fill reflux. It is absolutely unbearable at night. Don't seem to have any reflux symptoms during the day. I have tried elevating my bed with books under the posts. I even bought a wedge pillow to go under the mattress and none of these changes had any effect on my reflux. Doctor gave me a script for Prilosec and no change. Had to go back to doctor and have fill reversed and now everything is fine as far as reflux goes. Doctor has no suggestions as to how to get past this situation. Does anyone have any? Thanks,
KateP 359 Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) I have never had bad reflux but have twice had periods of mild night time reflex. Both times, a tiny amount if saline out sorted it out. So from my experience, there is simply a point where my band is too tight. I have accepted this and use my band accordingly. What is your current situation? Do you feel the band s not giving you enough help? Edited May 4, 2015 by KateP
tallen74 0 Posted May 4, 2015 The band is allowing me to maintain my current weight. About a year ago weight loss leveled off and I can't seem to lose any more. I had a fill to start the weight loss again and the reflux started so I had some removed and the reflux stopped. Recently tried a fill and here came the reflux again so I had some removed and reflux went away. I'd really like to lose 40 more lbs. but can't seem to
KateP 359 Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) I am fed up with this site! It happens so often I type a long reply and just before I send, I get an error message and it vanishes., trying again! This is a statement of the obvious. But sometimes we need that. A series of statements! You are staying the same weight so you are eating the same number of calories you are burning. So you need to eat less to lose. The band does not make us lose weight, our food choices do that. The band should never physically stop us eating, it should just dim hunger. Your band is having some effect (you say so). So if you can't have more fill, you have to use the band as it is now. Are you starting every meal with dense Protein? Measuring what you eat? Eating that amount and walking away? Having only planned Snacks? Avoiding sliders? I keep my band fairly loose, I have seen too many people with serious complications from not doing so. I coupl always eat more, then band never stops me eating. All it does is help me feel less hungry. If a am bored, I fight not to eat, and often give in -but that is boredom and craving not hunger. If I am busy, I don't think of food.< /p> That is ALL the band is supposed to do. It should never stop us eating. If it does that, food is backed up and can damage the oesophagus. Bandista 7,466 Posted May 4, 2015 Hi there, I hear you on getting the last chunk off and how hard that can be...... Do you exercise? I only ask because if you are not currently exercising and you are able to add that in you will be amazed. Unfortunately I already exercise as much as I can so I don't have that avenue open to me. Instead I need to find ways to cut caloric intake. Evenings are difficult for me. Sigh. Good luck sorting this out. I never want to be too tight either. It's just not worth the risk. lisacaron 5,075 Posted May 4, 2015 @@tallen74 do you eat or drink anything right before going to bed? I know that if I do that I will have some reflux at night. I try not to have anything to eat or drink before going to bed at night. I take my medication earlier than I used to and I don't have anything right before I turn in for the night. I noticed that the muscle relaxer I was on for my back spasms was causing this refulx to happen more often as it was relaxing that muscle as well as the rest of me I also have a friend this happens to when she takes Tylenol PM.
