6 months ago...November banders..

Recommended Posts

It's about the 6 month mark for us November banders. How is everyone doing?

High Weight: 315

Pre Surgery Weight: 289

Current Weight: 251

I'm working to get over a small hump, but so far have had few issues.

Congratulations

I'm a November bandster as well - (27 November).

Highest weight - 119kg (262lb)

Pre surgery weight - 114kg (251lb)

Current weight - 96kg (211lb)

Goal weight - 60kg (132lb)

I think I've done those conversions correctly...

my progress has slowed a little but thankfully hasn't stopped.

Would love to reach my goal by the anniversary of my surgery but I'm not going to put that pressure on myself, more realistically I will aim for my 43rd birthday on 4 February 20165.

Great to check in! My highest weight was 189 lbs, and my current weight is 176.8 lbs (down 12.2 lbs). I can't remember my pre-surgery weight. I'm one of those people who dropped weight with the pre-surgery diet, and post-surgery during recovery, then immediately gained weight once I could start eating again. I never made it back up to 189, but I had to work my way down again once my band started being properly adjusted.

The main thing I am working on now, 6 mo out, is my eating habits. That means, learning which foods are band-friendly, and which are not. Focusing on dense Proteins. Losing empty carbs. Working on eating slow and chewing well. Learning to listen to my body and notice a stuck incident sooner, rather than having food build up in my esophagus which then needs to come up.

We are changing years of ingrained habits, and for me, it's not an easy, overnight process! However, I'm committed to make this work, so I'm looking forward to getting better and better at it over time.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

My surgery date was 11/14/14. So far I lost 51 pounds 11 in the preops. Still struggling with chewing, its a reflex action mostly. Exercise at least 2-3 times a week. I need to get that number up. I have had 3 fills and my band is a about 6 oz but I have good restriction and not ready for another fill. For April I only lost about 2 pounds but mostly because I started drinking iced coffee with the warm weather coming in. I know better know switching to iced tea with splenda.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
