Sleeved on 4/29 intense pain on left side when standing

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 4/29 and feeling good except when I stand I have an intense stabbing pain on my front left side. I hope this is normal, nowhere else hurts but this specific area. Anybody else feel something similar??

It might be gas.

I only had some soreness, no pain. I would not think "intense" pain is abnormal. I would call the doctor.

Are you referring to pain in the area of the incision site? The larger left incision was the worst for me. It was very difficult to get up from sitting or laying down, it felt like I had done 1000 crunches. Is that the pain you mean?

You aren't alone with that. That one are was the worst one for me too. I have read many others find that the only, or the most painful, incision site... Even after the general overall soreness goes away, that one place stayed tender for weeks. It does go away though.

Ha! You WERE stabbed there! That is where the stomach was pulled out, and so it will be the sorest of your incisions. They really had to pull and tug to get that puppy out, so yes, it will be sore for awhile. Just use either a heating pad on the lowest setting OR an ice pack (whichever feels better to you) with a towel between you and the unit. Don't leave it on there for more than 10 minutes at a time. This should help. Hope you feel better soon....

I hurt in the same spot, and I am 2 days ahead of you! Heating pad helps.

Some people say they were only "sore" or "uncomfortable" but I had excrutiating , near fainting, unfathomable pain And I have a very high pain thresh hold that has been tested in some pretty gruesome ways prior. So everyones experience is different.

Yup! It's that big left incision. I still have it too, but it's getting better everyday. Doctor said it was normal because that's where most of the "action" happens during surgery.

Four weeks out from surgery and I still have periodic tenderness around that site but it is much much less profound than week one post surgery. I still have a small bruise that is yellow now in that location. The rest of the incision sites have healed well. This too will pass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
