Expect good things to come in the future. It helped me to get over being nervous by watching a surgery on the internet, but that may not be the thing for you. I also read the info packets several times.

Not nuts, but feeling like am today. I am totally stressed and having these awful feelings that my insurance isn't going to cover me. I

've had a very stressful day. My daughter failed her drivers test because she freaked out trying to park. She is actually a decent driver for a 16 year old. Of course she was bawling and I was trying to keep it all together...Anyway - I pigged out on cheesecake so I feel lousy and I think I am just hoping the day will soon end and I can start tomorrow!

Anyway, the psychologist told me I will do really well with lap band. I have to see her again on Friday and am waiting to talk to the dietician. she is supposed to call me. My dr. is 3 1/2 hours from here so to avoid lots of trips she will call me instead of my driving to her. Pretty nice...

What is your next step toward surgery? Do you have a lot to lose? I guess we all have a lot, but I would be SO happy to lose 40, ecstatic with 60 and if I actually lost the 80 or so to get to a 23 or so BMI I think I'd feel like an alien. Haven't weighed that little since I was 16 and I'm soon to be 43!

Minnie - that's great that you get to knock out all the required visits in 1 day! Did your surgeon set up your appts w/nutritionist & exercise lady?

I've done the initial consultation (6/25) & the psych evaluation (7/02), but haven't heard anything else.

Thanks Minnie! LIfe's been better since I last wrote. My daughter passed her driver test with flying colors and I haven't binged on anything since the cheesecake!

Hoping to have surgery in Aug. I'm a teacher and go back to school right before Labor Day. I think my paperwork was sent in earlier this week. Will check with the dr office tomorrow. Hoping BCBS won't hassle me. Have a lower bmi but also have high blood pressure and am prediabetic. I have excellent insurance - one of the perks to being a poorly paid teacher! My surgery is covered at 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO excited!

Texgal, how were your appts? What about you Minnie? what's your status.

Thank you for asking. Btw, congrats on having a teen driver in your home. We'll be going through that w/our 15 yr old son very soon. LOL

Appt went fine (although I had to commit to giving up Pepsi's & Dr. Peppers --LOL) The psych doc. took my file w/him on vacation .. (how odd) .. so my records didn't get to the surgeon last week. I was assured the records would be faxed to the surgeon on the 9th & then they will submit everything to BCBS. If I'm approved, then we go forward w/Nutritionist, Chest X-ray. Cross your fingers for me. :)

P.S. I've had to log in here a few time to keep from drinking a Dr. Pepper!! I guess I "am addicted". LOL

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
