Recommended Posts

My EGD is scheduled for next Thursday the 21, the only problem is I had to move my dietician appt. I hope I get it all done in time. I am shooting for a June date.

I want to join the buddy group too!! I have a BMI of 30-31. I am 5'3 and currently weigh 174. I am self pay in Mexico on June 1st, so I'll be able to report on my progress as a low BMi patient too.

Love reading everyone's comments and support as I really don't have that from my friends

Hey everyone! I have a question! Many of you have mentioned adipex (sp?). Did you PC give you a scrip for that and what is it?

No one ever offer me diet meds? I feel left out!

@@LauriTX75 I'm not sure what that drug is.. but I hear ya....

If I could do it on my own I think I would have....

My husband is a pushing factor - in that he knows I'd feel better about myself once I'm smaller.

SW 189 CW 184 2 week pre-op - BMI 33 age 56

Yes I'm self pay.

Am I REALLY sure -- I'm not sure I'll every be REALLY sure until it's over... and then YES I know it'll be too late to go back.

My personality is to analyze, over analyze, and then analyze again.. and end up right where I started. My husband says I hate making decisions. That's not it I just don't want to be wrong.

My surgery date is 5/18-- yikes... I wonder what happens if I get there, see the facility and change my mind? LOL

Adipex is phentermine. Diet pill. Bad for your heart it mimics amphetamines. A upper makes you hyper and not hungry.

made me very jittery when I took it years ago. Very short term weight loss and when you stop you gain it all back. So glad I've chosen WLS to help me long term.

Going to my first support group since surgery 6 weeks ago and DREADING it. My friend is going through the same bariatric pre-op program I did and they require you to attend one post-op support group before moving on and she asked me to come with her. I am really dreading this because most of the individuals in the group had very high BMIs, and many of them started at well over 300lbs. I feel so awkward, being a "lightweight" , and feel the stares, looking at the "skinny b*ch", in their eyes, of course. If it were not for my friend, I'd say screw it, because I get all the support I need here from you guys ????Just needed to release some of that anxiety.. Thanks for listening!

I am also in the same boat. I am in my last month of preop and need an EGD to check severity of reflux before scheduling surgery. My BMI was 35, now it's 33. Everyone says I don't need surgery but I am tired of yoyoing drastically and need this tool to stay at a decent weight my small bones can handle. I am miserable with swelling feet and low self esteem. I don't care what anyone says, people treat u different once u become overweight. I really need to buddy up with someone who understands why I need this surgery. I'm really nervous about possible complications. I am a single mother with a new house and I cannot afford to be incapacitated long term. Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

I too was prescribed phentermine, then Belviq and now Contrave. Contrave works great but once u stop taking it, boom ur hunger and thoughts of eating bad foods returns. U can't stay on a diet pill ur whole life.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
