My surgeons instructions say to avoid breads, pastas and rice indefinitely. But I know a lot of people who are much further out and eat these things in moderation. At 5 weeks out, I wouldn't eat Pasta. You could try spiralized veggies with your favorite Pasta Sauce. I used to eat a lot of "zoodles" in lieu of spaghetti. It's not the exact same taste but it's still very satisfying and works as a good vehicle for your pasta sauce.

I was told no Pasta ever. Basically, no white sugar, no white flour. Pasta's were on the list of avoid for life if you can. Have I had some? I have had a few bites here and there but only a few bites. These are some of the foods that got us to where we are so I try to avoid.

WHen I go to an Italian restaurant, I either get a chicken dish (chicken marsala but try to not eat all the sauce). Or I get some meatballs and some veggies

I avoid Pasta like the plague because it is a trigger food for me. I am 7 months post op. I do eat a small amount of rice and potatoes about twice per week.

You just have to be prepared that when you eat those things it is harder to lose during those periods.

Also, I did not touch any of those types of carbs until I was about 6 months out.

The soft food diet can get old but it is worth the wait because you heal fully and then when you do eat some of those things you will tolerate it much better.

Have you tried Shirataki noodles? They are made out of yam flour and have 15 calories and 4 grams of carbs. They are a great substitute for Pasta but not so great that you want to overeat. You can find them in the produce section of most grocery stores.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
