Rogofulm 2,440 Posted May 1, 2015 After 10 months I'm still on Pantoprazole. Don't know if I still need it or not, but I never have any acid problems. I just got my last refill, so I may change to generic omeprazole (Prilosec, Nexium) when that runs out. Or I may try to go with nothing.

kp1971us 31 Posted May 1, 2015 I'm six weeks post-op. I take 40 mg protonix once a day (was on this prior to surgery) and 75 mg prescription Zantac twice a day. I went through a rough patch of horrible reflux, but it seems to be a little better now that I'm eating real food.
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted May 1, 2015 I take 20mg omeprazole (generic Prilosec) twice daily. Once in the morning and once before bed. I am 8 months post-op.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted May 1, 2015 Tums does not do much for most of us. I was put on omeprazole 20mgs 1x say from day 1. Around 6 weeks I noticed I would get slight heartburn in midafternoon/early evenings. After speaking with my doctor at my 3 mth f/u my dosage was increased to 40mgs. By 5mths I no longer needed omeprazole at all. In fact I don't even need to use Tums. My body has regulated itself and I've retrained myself to not wolf my food down. I no longer have to eat super slow, but I don't inhale my food and get sick either. I'm 7½ mths post-op.

And my surgeon is on vacation :/ Whenever I try to advance from phase one to phase two, I end up vomiting. Trying to get my doctor to give me more antacids or the protonic I was on in the hospital. He did just give me a pre-scription for zofran
christielturner 0 Posted May 1, 2015 My MD prescribed me Omeprazole 40 mg daily for 30 days post op, she told me to stop taking it and use TUMS for acid reflux as needed. She said that Omeprazole and Pepcid decreases absorption of some Vitamins so it should just be used until the stomach heals. Listen to your MD. Everyone is different. If you can't get a prescription quickly enough, you might try the OTC stuff. And then check it with your doc as soon as you can. Feel better!
liannatx 897 Posted May 1, 2015 I take OTC Prilosec twice a day. I was only taking it once a day, but the 2nd week post op I was waking with Reflux and was told to take 2 a day for the first few months. Taking them twice a day works perfectly... I don't have any problems at all with heartburn or reflux now.
