Portion Sizes/Eating- what do you do? what do you use? do you have a 'ritual'?

Recommended Posts

I am on purees so I am allowed to have cottage cheese and I decided that I would have that for dinner.

I pulled out the cottage cheese container and a spoon...I chewed, chewed, chewed...swallowed...waited a few minutes...another spoon...repeat.

I found that I was mildly disappointed when I recognized I was full and I noted that internal response right away...I took a moment to re-feel my fulness, marvel and be grateful at the benefits of being full on so little and mentally brush away the disappointment over wanting more- and reinforced not needing more.

Now I realize that I made a mistake by eating directly from the container- my laziness about not wanting to wash a dish for so little...but I think taking the time to serve myself a portion is important. In part because I have less in front of me to want, and in part because I just remembered I need to be mindful about eating.

I'm going to do this right!

So, I'd love to hear from other people about what they do? What do you measure in? what do you eat off of or out of?

I found these cute little Sponge Bob and Teenage Mutant Turtles bowls at Dollar General. They pretty much prove to be the right serving size for now, plus they are Glad so they have snap on lids and travel well to work. lunch is usually just one bowl and then for supper I will have one plus about half of another one of something like a vegetable.

I have a bunch of the little 4oz Rubbermade containers that I use to take stuff to work. I catch myself using them often at home... half full and I know that its about 2 oz, which is just right.

I put everything in little containers with lids so it's measured out and ready to eat and i use little spoons from the kid section at target so I take smaller bites

When I was on pureed foods, I used a demitasse spoon (like a baby spoon but a shorter handle) to make sure I didn't get big bites. Now I use small Rubbermaid containers, like others have said. I also use the Laptop lunch bento containers for smaller portions. I am still continually surprised at how little food it takes for me to feel full, and my biggest challenge is slowing down -- I still eat too fast!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
