rnsamantha 352 Posted April 30, 2015 I have completed my 6 months of supervised diet and exercise this month. I had a sleep study early April and was just informed the results show I have mild sleep apnea--not enough to typically qualify for CPAP, but hopefully enough that my insurance considers it a comorbidity! My insurance requires a BMI of 40+ without comorbidities and 35+ with. I am sitting at 39.9, and have no comorbidities (before these results). My insurance lists sleep apnea as one of the qualifying comorbidities. I am hoping to submit to insurance within the next week and that this will help me get approved quickly!!! jadama22 110 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi, I hope that works out for you. I was just recently told that my sleep study did point to conclusive sleep apnea and 2 months ago I was literally at the threshold of a 40 bmi, but now I have actually gained 7 pounds - which i'm not happy about, but it will most certainly give me some room to loose a couple of pounds with the pre-op diet that is coming my way. rnsamantha 352 Posted May 1, 2015 To clarify I did have a BMI of 41 at the beginning of my supervised diet and exercise program. I have to admit I have tried very hard to not let my BMI drop too much though. Guess all I can do now is wait and see what they say.
jadama22 110 Posted May 1, 2015 If you are at a 41 BMI - that you should be ok without a comorbidity. I for one can't stand the waiting anymore, but I am excited - my process is 3 months of supervised diet and of course all the pre-op appointments - which I should be done with by next month. Can' wait! To clarify I did have a BMI of 41 at the beginning of my supervised diet and exercise program. I have to admit I have tried very hard to not let my BMI drop too much though.
