1st visit and weigh in 3 week follow up concerns

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I am happy with the results just a few facts I have been keeping my carbs less than 30, doing all i cld to follow and be good! So I unfortunately started at 385 2nd visit 360 follow up today at 344! Yay. My Doc told me today i can hv up to 100 carbs and for the calories dont worry about them for now. Continue to do the same thing I hv been. But before my surgery I had gotten to fear food. I felt fearful of food since carbs always blew me up and made me gain weight and I was so frusturated I felt like food was my enemy. According to Doc that was normal and I need to learn to hv a new look and understand the pouch has changed everything. So have any of you experienced this? And Honestly I was a little let down I wanted to lose more this visit, my doc was happy. Any thoughts wld be appreciate insight :-)

I'm thinking a little fear is good. It will keep you honest! I discovered today a co worker had the surgery 2 yes ago and I never would have guessed cause she sucks down sodas all day long and eats McDonalds for lunch every day and admitted she's put back on 30 after losing 100....I don't want to make her mistakes!!!

Thank you for your response that is amazing even the stars who do it publicly. And its such an amazing oppty that we hv been given. Those people who are going thru whatever crisis such as your co-worker. In order to eat like that you wld hv to eat like that for a while, To stretch your pouch is not easy. Of course if we were to lose 100 lbs thats dificult enough but we all know weight comes bk on faster than it comes off. Due to yrs of yoyo dieting I had lost 125 lbs by diet and exercise very hard work. Then i was injured bedbound for over a yr. Sorry im rambling. Anyway its me and you on my concern! Lol have a great day!

You have a higher starting weight, so you need more calories than people with lower starting weights. I know it seems strange, but you can actually eat too little to effectively lose weight.

As far as your carbs go, just make sure that they aren't simple sugars. Get plenty of healthy grains, fruits, and vegetables, but stay away from actual sugar. Most of us ate simple carbs (white breads, Pasta, sweets) before surgery. Your body does need some carbs to be able to function correctly.

Follow your doctors instructions and don't stress yourself out. You can do it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
