I had my gastric sleeve done on 4/21. Had a lot of nausea in hospital and when I went home but that is much better now. No pain meds since hospital. But several thing have happened since I got home. I hurt my back and can't do much walking. I feel so depressed and am not getting enough Protein and Water. Not even worried about weight loss at this point. Just want out of this funk. Am still at my parents house as I'm a little afraid to be by myself. I guess my main concern is am I going to be totally messed up with my protein and water intake and hurt myself physically? And I'm supposed to be walking, walking, walking and I can't even get up because of my back. Also my daughter lost her job in San Francisco and that is a terrible loss. Trying very hard not to feel sorry for myself but I'm really down. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!

Fluids are more important than anything right now. The downside is that if you get dehydrated, you are going to end up in the hospital on IVs. I had a really bad day about six months in, when I was vomiting and pooing all day and into the night. During one of my bathroom trips at 3:00 in the morning, I passed out and hit my head on the bathtub. I was out for about an hour.

I tried to get up and passed out again and hit my head on the tub...again....and was out for an hour and a half. I ended up in in the emergency room and kept overnight for a CT scan and IV's for dehydration. There was a bariatric brother on the forum last year who passed out from dehydration and busted his jaw on a coffee table.

At nine days in, you should be about ready for soft foods. That will chirp you up as you begin to add real food back into your diet. Just watch the carbs though. We eat all this Protein for a reason. It helps us heal. Your body is a human machine and Protein is it's major fuel.

Sorry to hear about your other troubles. This bariatric journey is challenging enough without other worrisome events. Taking better care of yourself will help you feel better. Look on YouTube for exercises for the bedridden.

And try "Sit and Be Fit", it is on PBS here in Washington state, but you can get it on DVD, also. You just sit in a chair and "walk"! Among other exercises. Sit in a firm chair, and pretend you are walking, lifting up your knees. Do it for as long as you can, and keep doing it as often as you would if you COULD get up and walk!

As for the Water and Protein, try the Water Enhancer drops with tepid Water, not cold. You can also add it to unflavored Protein water (mix unflavored Protein powder with water). You can adjust the flavor/sweetness level. Keep us posted! Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
