HELP! Protein Shakes (In-Store/On-line) cost effective pre-op and Post-op

Recommended Posts

Hello my friends. I had an appointment with my NUT and Surgeon today. We were discussing the pre-op and post-op requirements since I will start May preparing for surgery. I would like a head start in trying Protein shakes and stocking up. Although I have gotten suggestions from my NUT, I would like to hear from the professionals (you guys) who have actually had to buy and drink them regularly.

Please let me know experiences, good or bad. I know everyone is different but this is hard enough and if I can get through one hurdle easier it is worth it.

THANK EVERYONE and HAPPY SHEDDING!!!

Go to your nearest Max Muscle they will give you samples. They are great tasting, 26g of Protein per serving, low sugar, carbs and fat, and no fillers! I swear by them!

No Problem! I am a big proponent of Max Muscle Nutrition, they educate you on proper nutrition and exercise to help you fulfill your training goals. They also don't force products on to you. Just what you may need to succeed. Good luck on finding something you like, there are a lot of good flavor options. I am a purist chocolate maxpro with PB2 and a 1/2 of a banana with almond milk (unsweetened of course)

Shopping online for Max Muscle products will be more expensive. They do this to have personal interaction with their customers.

I really like the Isopure products. They have the Protein powders, I get the zero carb vanilla and unflavored and their flavored Protein Drink. I like the grape because if there is any chance I may vomit, I want it to taste the same, but they have other favors. I ordered my online.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
