All Over Post Op Problems

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Monday. I felt great at the hospital, went home Tuesday. I was up 10 lbs after surgery, is that all the Water I received through the IV?

I'm exhausted and just want to sleep. I'm sad, blue, depressed, whatever you want to call it. I'm guessing just because I feel overall lousy. Will this go awy?

I'm up on my Protein and Water and other pills - Just feeling awful. Please tell me this will all go away and I'll start feeling better. :(

It will all go away and you will start to feel better. I gained twelve pounds in the hospital. I was weak for a couple of weeks, and did not really have any energy until I started regular cooked foods. The pain was not so bad. I did not need any pain meds at home after the third day.

@debbie813 Yes, it took a few days after all the fluids and the shock to my system for the weight to come off, but it definitely will.

Blues are so common. You are not alone and it likely won't be the first time you experience them. First, your anesthesia can really mess with your head as it leaves your body as does any major surgery. Your body is trying to figure out what just happened! Second, hormones (estrogen) are stored in our fat cells. As these cells are broken down our bodies are flooded with hormones so think baby blues, pregancy, PMS and the change all at once.

It gets better! Everyday is different. When you start feeling down, go outside and take a walk it really helps. Stop by here anytime. I'm only four weeks out today and I've had my share of ups and downs but many more ups!

Sending you a virtual hug!

I'm feeling the same way. I'm regretting getting the surgery... The thought of my Protein Powder and Protein Shakes makes me nauseas. Im struggling to get my Protein in and fluids too. Im in week 3. Thank god I at least just got mushy food back. It's helping, but I need to get in my protein. Im going to call the doc tomorrow and see about getting some nausea meds. Today the smell of everything made me nauseas. I cried tonight because I'm not sure what I got myself into. I go back to work tomorrow, so I am hoping to get my mind off everything. But I'm worried and trying to figure out how the hell in going to get 80 grams of protein in...

I'm on my 5th week after getting gastric bypass. It's a struggle to stay hydrated, and to get in the necessary Protein. So far my experience has been ruff but it will get better. Stay optimistic!!!!

I am 9 weeks out from surgery, and I can tell you it does get better. I know people told me that right after my surgery, and I felt like they had no idea how bad it really was for me. I had some pretty severe depression, and several weeks of regret. I am finally starting to feel like myself again, and I am at a point that I'm happy I got the surgery. Hang in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
