Workingout / Low Energy

Recommended Posts

I have been walking every morning about 3 1/2 - 4 miles for 7 weeks (except Saturday or Sunday). In the afternoon I alternate between a Barbell Strength class at the gym and riding my bike 14 miles.

I'm finding that during my afternoon workout I seem to run out of energy while riding or lifting. Do any of you have experience with this? Did you take any supplements or energy boosters?

I'm about 9 weeks out.

I've lost 50lbs. (Im currently 265)

I take in about 2 Protein shakes a day + eating chicken or fish.

Thanks in advance.

Donnie

Can you talk with your dietician about this? They may have a great solution for you. I'm wondering if you're getting in enough food-wise to accommodate your activity level. Do you take B12? You may want to get that level checked. Also, have you had you thyroid checked? One of the big symptoms for hypothyroidism is lack of energy. Might want to check it out. Good luck to you!

Journal your food intake, you are working out a lot and my not be giving your body enough fuel! You may want to up your Protein intake before your second workout of the day. "You can't race a car with an empty gas tank"!

I work out 4-5 times a week and as a result I have had to increase my calories from 1000 -1200 or 1300 on workout days and make sure before a workout I have a Protein Shake or omelette with salmon before Breakfast, an hour before a workout. Or after a workout, sometimes a shake, banana with natural yoghurt, almonds or cottage cheese on a cracker. I can burn around 400-600 calories just from running and boy my body does need those extra calories, if not I suffer rom headaches and just too week to exercise.

Thank you AngelaE! That makes total sense. I take in very few calories and the good Fiber calories from a fruit smoothy might help. I will start tracking my calories just to see if I am getting enough.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
