Boo Hoo - Appointment Canceled for one day

Recommended Posts

Wow, Betty, I go off for one evening and look what happens! No, seriously, you have certainly proven that you have willpower, that you're obeying the rules (better than most of us!), and that you have the common sense to let your band heal. With all the knowledge that you've collected from numerous bandsters and boards, I think you're capable of making proper decisions. How frustrating when you rescheduled to see your surgeon and no one had the courtesy to let you know that he wouldn't be in the office today! Did the assist. know you had a lapband and not gastric bypass surgery? It's a good thing you have a post-op sheet to go by! Please enjoy your nice, warm Soups and have a great weekend!

Yeah, he knows I had the lapband. I am going to go mostly by my sheet, but also on how I feel. I know what I need to do and what I need not to do. I am going to let the dietician know, if not for anything else to keep this from happening to someone else. It really upset me, but just because he had totally changed everything she told me, then he added a whole extra week of his way of eating instead of adding the meats etc. I'm not mad or upset anymore, just had to get it out of my system instead of letting it eat at me. :) I just wasn't at all happy with my visit, so that set me off too. It's behind me, and I will be fine! Now, what's for Breakfast? :) I actually have a choice today! It's funny, because I'm really not hungry either! lol

Betty, if you're not hungry, don't eat. And stick to your plan. Go look at our Junk food Challenge thread and you'll see what can happen once you let bad choices slip in (this won't happen right away, but once you're more comfy, it's easy to give in to willpower.) I wish I'd never have picked up the first goodie. Stick with individual serving size things as best as you can to control portions. A lot of us are having trouble right now because we picked up that one first bite of cookie, ice cream, etc. So you have a fresh chance and can learn from us. Stick with that sheet just like you said you would, and enjoy all your new choices. Don't ever give up, and don't ever give in, or you'll find yourself subscribing to our Junk Food Challenge thread, and that's a place you don't want to be. Show us how it's done, band girl!

Thanks Lisa! I have learned so much from you gals. I guess that's why when he said what he did I got so upset. The first thing out of my mouth to my DH was the girls on my board don't eat this way! They eat like normal people, 3 times a day not every hour! lol See, I learn from y'all real fast!

Right now, I don't have trouble with any sweets. I just am not a sweet eater, but usually at Christmas I make up for it. This year I am not going to get hooked! If I do, I will be in your challenge along side of y'all. lol

Betty, I think you are doing exactly the right thing. I think some of these drs. need to try some of their own advice before telling their patients to do it!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
