I am about 1 month out from surgery and feel like I should have lost more weigh by now... My starting weight was 276 and I am down to 241 as of today. It feels like I should be dropping lbs faster. Have I messed up my surgery somehow? I know everyone is different, but I am really depressed that it isn't coming off quicker.

You have lost 35lbs in one month. When is the last time you have been able to do that? You are actually doing fantastic!

You have to remember that every time you lose a lb. it's a lb. you will never see again if you follow the plan.

You also have to remember you did not put on all that weight overnight and you won't lose it that way either.

Also, as soon as you start eating regular foods the weight loss will slow down some too.

Rest assured you are doing fantastic!

35 pounds in one month is awesome! Remember, the heavier a person is, the more weight they will lose early on. It isn't a contest. Besides, you really don't want to lose too quickly or you're going to be left with a lot of saggy skin. It takes your skin 2-3 months to adjust every time you lose weight. Give it some time to catch up! I'm a year out from surgery and lost all of my weight at a snails pace. I remember panicking that it wasn't coming off fast enough. Now I feel grateful because 1) I am at goal weight with a big fat happy smile and 2) I have almost zero saggy skin. Trust in the process. Follow your plan. Eat your Protein. You will be at goal weight before you know it ????

The type of surgery that you had will also affect how quickly you lose weight. Sleeve patients seem to lose weight slower than RNY. And then there are several other types of gastric bypass surgeries.

Also many people gain weight immediately after surgery because they pump your body full of fluids. It takes a little while to lose this extra surgery weight. Also your body is still recovering from major trauma. So all-in-all a loss of 35 pounds in the first month is great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
