Water and food in the same time ? harmful or harmless?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone drinks and eats in the same time , or doesnt wait all 30 minutes ? and if they feel weird when they do this. It is summer time and I am always thirsty and find it hard not to drink a lot. I also wanted to know of anyone drinks faster than recommended , or how fast do people drink ? for the first 2 weeks i was told to drink an ounce in fifteen minutes , i am starting my fourth week of post op diet , and i cant possibly wait 15 minutes to drink. am i harming myself ?

Pebbles, I'm 4 weeks out and I can drink several gulps at one time. I don't think you're hurting yourself, because you haven't had a fill yet. I get my first fill in 2 weeks, and I can't wait, because I'm definitely eating more than 1/2 cup at meal times, actually it's more like 1 1/2 cups! While that's nowhere near what I used to be able to eat before, it's still more than I hoped I'd be eating. When is your first fill?

You should wait 1 hour to drink liquids after meals. If you don't then the food is washed from the pouch and thus defeats the band's purpose, i.e., keep the food in the pouch to avoid the hungry sensation

Right.

it wont actually harm the band or anything, but when you drink when you eat, it works like turning the faucent on a garbage disposal and flushes all your food out.

I really fought this part too at first. I drink a bottle of Water or my hot tea BEFORE eating ;) makes it easier.

I tend to drink and eat at the same time, not big amounts of liquid. Right now I'm eating my Breakfast and nursing a cup of coffee I've had sitting by me since before I started, and taking a sip every now and then doesnt bother me at all.

I also have never noticed that it "washes" food through my pouch faster, although its logical that it would make whatever's there more soupy and likely to go through faster, I dont notice an effect from that.

I would imagine gulping down a big glass of Water immediately after finishing a meal would put you at risk of overstretching your pouch and i've never tried to do that - instinct tells me it would be uncomfortable.

When I say I drink and eat I'm talking tiny sips of a glass of wine, not a whole 250ml glass of Water.< /p>

I find that if I drink a few gulps of water at the end of a meal, the water just sits there on top of the food, until I PB the water and sometimes a little of the food. So I stopped drinking during meals...only BEFORE to help ease the eating process!

I am having a problem getting all my Water in.... before my surgery I drank tons during meal times, so I'm trying very hard to retrain myself to drink before I eat. I noticed that the times I've tried to drink any at all during meals, I PB like crazy. This is sooo embarrassing in public!

Hmm, SOM, for me it depends how full I am. I cant drink if something's a bit blocked, that's for sure.

I think though that perhaps I'm even looser (bandwise, lol) in comparison to other bandsters that I realise and perhaps that if my band were adjusted more optimally, I wouldnt be able to drink and eat together either. Because to be honest, I fill up quickly, but nothing stays in my pouch very long no matter what I do. I dont find myself starving, but that "lack of appetite" I had when I'd just had surgery, I've never been able to find that again.

I've gotten to a normal weight without it, but I'd like just a spell of it to get to what I consider my optimum weight. But I just dont want to give up the freedom I have eatingwise. Sigh.

its not harmful at all, all it does is wash the food out of your pouch, so you are likely to get hungry faster.

try drinking BEFORE you eat or chew ice if you just have to have something after. Wait an hour before sipping on anything so that your food can satisfy your hunger.

That would be a good reason for me not to do it! LOL:omg:

If I eat something that makes me thirsty, I will take a small sip and rinse my mouth with it and then swallow....not enough to wash much food through my pouch but enough to ease the thirst.

If I have even the SMALLEST LITTLE SIP of liquid around or during my meals, I get stuck. It's been really hard for me because I really LOVE to drink with my meals but it's not worth the stuck feeling.

Of course all the docs' rules vary a little, but one of my doctor's hard fast rules is absolutely no drinking with meals. He says drink (sip) up until you start eating, none while eating and none for one hour afterward. I am new at this and I think this will be a bit difficult for me.

Drinking with meals can either flush the food through the band or cause it to get stuck which they tell me is painful! I am still on liquids so I have not experienced this yet. Best of luck to you....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
