is it normal to be a little scared??

Recommended Posts

:confused:I'm a little worried, Is my cold going to get better and not worse in 3days? I'm a going to die on the table? Should I really be doing this? What if there are complications (I've already paid out 16,000) Can I aford more money? AHGGG I hope that this is "COLD FEET" so to speak. Did anyone else feel this way?

Of course it's normal to be a little scared!! You wouldn't be a thinking human being if you didn't consider all the possibilities. Take a deep breath and just keep moving toward the goal.

Good luck with your surgery!!

<p>Yup. I have a little over a week before my surgery and I'm feeling the same way. From what I understand, this is completely normal

I didn't start feeling scared until I was laying in the pre-op room, with the gown on and IV started and waiting for the anesthesiologist to talk with me. That's when it hit me!!! I guess before that, I felt like it was still too good to be true that I was actually going to get banded, so it was almost like a dream. Why get excited when something was probably going to toss a wrench into it???

The next thing I know, they're telling me to wake up in recovery!!!!! It really went fast and all is OK. It will be with you, too!!! It's normal to feel the feelings that you are.

Just take a deep breath and keep in mind this procedure is done on a daily basis --- practically routine for most doctors, and before you know it, they'll be nagging you to wake up in recovery when all you want to do is go back to sleeep!!!!

You'll do great! Let us know how it goes!!!

I feel the same way! I'm one week away, not liking the fact that my surgery is now "out patient" procedure. I feel like a cow in the cattle being shuffled along.

It's TOTALLY normal to feel that way. I posted a panic stricken post before my surgery - I was a mess. I was nervous going to the hospital and lying in bed waiting for the anesthesiologist to come talk to me. BUT, I told him how nervous I was, he gave me GOOD drugs and I was fine. I remember falling asleep and then waking up as they were moving me to the OR. I remember saying "Wow, it's cold in here" and then I remember waking up in the recovery room with very little pain and great sense of relief and excitement.

I'm almost a month post op and, even though I had some complications at first, I would do it again in a second. Down 29 lbs and I'm starting to feel like me again.

You will do GREAT. Although it's normal to think of all the "what if?" stuff, you need to know you are in good hands and no one will let you get hurt. This is the beginning of a new life for you, try to embrace the joy in that. Understand though, it's perfectly normal to be nervous - pretty much everyone is. You'll get through this with flying colors.

Keep us updated and let us know how you're doing

I went through the same thing, and it's totally normal. Any time we have surgery it's always a trying time. Try to keep busy and time will go faster. Don't forget to stop by and let us know how the surgery went! Good Luck!

I was excited until the night before. It all of a sudden hit me that I was going to have surgery the next day. The best thing that happened for me that Brookhaven obesity clinic was on tv. I knew then I was doing the right thing. I think every one gets nervous about it at some point.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
