It's been two weeks and I have only lost maybe 2-3 lbs. actually I go up and down. I have been working out a lot and getting my protein/water. I am getting so frustrated. ????

Has it only been 2 weeks since your surgery or are you saying that you haven't lost much weight in the past two weeks? If it's only been two weeks since your surgery, I hope you aren't working out too hard. You need to recover! You should just be walking.

If you are saying you haven't lost weight in the past couple of weeks, then that's perfectly normal. Everyone goes through stalls. Especially if you have increased your workouts, your body will retain Water to repair your muscles when you start working out harder.

@@mandyq1985 I feel for you. I hope you lose really soon so you can see some results for your suffering. I had my surgery 6 days ago. I came home from the hospital 3 pounds lighter and it's ben up and down but no more weight loss. I know it's onl been 6 days blah blah blah but I am tired of eternal positivity. The surgery was excruciatingly painful. I' m the ONLY one - right? And I want results I couldnt get without the surgery or I woulnt have had it! I'm a realist!!

Yeah. My surgery and recovery was relatively easy. I am 4 weeks out as of yesterday. I am down 35 lbs and have began working out vigorously. I haven't seen the scale move other than go up and down in the last two weeks. I have lost like 2 lbs. but it's really beginning to bring me down. ????. Boo.

I'm right there with the weight loss, I definitely expected to lose a Lil more than I am. Although my surgery was great, only a Lil pressure. Good luck

Congratulations! You may have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall a little early. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the pounds will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I had my sleeve surgery about 10 days ago. Saw the Doc at 1 week post-op check up. I was discussing this very topic with him, and while the article posted above goes into a lot of detail, a key aspect of early stall is simply related to the fact that while you were in the hospital, they pumped lots and lots of fluids into you (remember the frequent IV bag changes?). Well, that adds a lot of Water weight to the body and it takes some time to get the body into a rhythm of reducing. I think this dovetails into what the article says in greater detail. -RC-

Just seems hopeless. I weighed myself this morning and I am back up a lb. instead of going down I am going up. I'm about to scream. I know everything that is being said is true and make sense. But I don't eat nearly enough calories vs how many I burn to go up a lb. I'm just ready to see the scale go down. It's so discouraging. ????

Exactly. You are not gaining fat. You are retaining Water.

Edit: Just for some perspective. It takes 3500 excess calories to gain a pound of fat. Meanwhile, even if you are getting the bare minimum of Water, you are drinking 4 POUNDS of water a day. If you retain just 1/4 of that, you will see a fluctuation of 1 pound on the scale.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
