New here! 1 week post op

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Brent and I had the VSG WLS on 4/21/15. My surgery was done in New Iberia, Louisiana by Dr. Thomas Boreland. He has been fantastic and very helpful along the way. I have struggled with weight since I was a very young age. My heaviest was 305lbs and my surgery weight was 294lbs. My current weight as of 4/28/15 is 286. That's 19lbs between my preop diet and the first week post op. I look forward to meeting other people that have had the VSG and look forward to building a great support group. I just started my thickened liquids yesterday and it was a little tough trying to get the Protein Shakes. Anyone recommend a good way to get Protein in? My new sleeve doesn't care for the Premier Protein shakes from SAMs.

@@bmontiville Sorry you're having troubles with the Premier Protein, that's the Protein I use. I am supposed to have 30 gms of protein a day for a while longer, and that shake is 30 gms of protein, and I love ot. Sometimes I dress it up a little and sprinkle a little PB2 in it and shake it up, to make it taste more like pnut butter and chocolate shake. But, my taste buds did not change after surgery. I still like everything I liked before. Nothing really turns my stomach (yet).

I had to experiment with various Protein Drinks post-op, because my tastes for them definitely changed and some were less pleasant than others for my new sleeve. The ones I ended up drinking were EAS AdventEDGE Carb Control, which I bought at Walmart and Target. Another thing you can try to do is add unflavored whey Protein Powder to your Soups and yogurts. Just be careful when adding it to Soup. If the soup is too hot, it can cause the powder to curdle.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
