So was 249 on March 13th 2015, when I had my surgery. Went well, no pain afterwards, had problems with Isopure, but switched to Baritric advantage and was fine. End of week 1, was weighed 241! So happy.

Continued with things, even got back to swimming laps...slowly 2 times a week, but doing my walking daily. So had an appointment today, 5 weeks out. Weight 239! Wtf! So I lost only 2 lbs after 4 weeks. I have only been on solid foods for a week and even then can't get to 700 calories barely. So frustrated!

Getting enough Protein and Water. I got the surgery to help with my poor metabolism. (I am not an emotional, binge or anything like that eater.) I was already eating well and exercising. I do have hypothyroidism, but my meds have been putting me into the hyper range, but I have been forgetting to take them some days recently. But had an endocrinologist who swore that my thyroid levels would not effect my weight much. So frustrated.

It seems like this story is pretty much the norm for weight loss post-surgery. Maybe some veterans can give us some hope as to when this changes. I am losing so slowly now that it's painful....following plan but feeling discouraged.

I have read that it slows down (around 6 months), but I'm only at week 5, a little more then a month out. I was losing 2 lbs a week just in the pre surgery classes.

You are likely in a stall due to not getting enough calories to sustain your level of activity. If you can't increase your calorie intake, because you still just physically can't eat enough, then try reducing your activity some. I wouldn't advocate that as a long-term solution though, since decreasing activity can lead to muscle loss. You need to find the right balance of calorie intake and activity to where you are in that sweet spot of losing steadily, but not sending your body into "starvation mode".

Be sure to get your 70-80 Grams of Protein a Day, and stay as close to 800-1000 Calories a Day! I found that helped me to loose the weight!

FWIW, my weight loss was really slow for the first several weeks. I was pretty grumpy when I weighed in ten days after surgery at the same weight that I'd gone in at. But I think my body was just retaining Fluid like crazy, plus healing from surgery. After I got through that, it started dropping again. Hang in there, you'll be seeing it soon. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
