Question about fills. Do we have to not eat or drink for 12-24 hours or whatever before the fills?

Hello robgoblin87:

I looked at my instruction sheet for my fills and here is what it says:

"Please eat a light breakfast on the morning of your fills. Also, remember that you will be on liquids for 24 hours following your appointment. Remember to bring a bottle of Water to your appointment - you will be asked to drink before you leave the Clinic to make sure your Band is not too tight."

TLBC has always told me to make sure I have a good meal before the fill. So, if your fill is in the afternoon...make sure you have a good lunch. If it is in the morning, a good Breakfast.< /p>

Mr Yoda and I are going to a rest. in TO for lunch tomorrow prior to going to TLBC.

If you want clarity, call the clinic Mon morning. But yeah, I've always eaten a "good" meal before my fill.....it is the after that is the tricky part...(fluids for the rest of the day).

Don't forget that your fill won't be at 1:30. The seminar starts at 1:30....it is supposed to be two hours long (?...so they say!) and THEN they give you the fills. So you likely won't get your fill until after 3:00 (from my understanding).

We'll see you there!! Looking forward to meeting you.

I had my first fill last Monday the 18th and all of the midbanders were getting 5 cc. Two came back and couldn't even hold a sip of Water in their mouth. They had to go back in and get 1 cc taken out. I got scared and asked for only 3 cc. I have tightness in the am but by lunch and dinner I can still eat probably too much. I go back on the 26th and will probably ask for another 1 cc. It didn't hurt and she is pretty quick at doing it.

As usual, I am the lone woman out. I couldn't return to TLBC as scheduled by them as I couldn't afford it until six weeks later. I then flew out and had the fill. I did not attend an seminar nor did I get an instruction sheet. As a result on my first fill I had a good breakfast and was unable to take more than 2 ccs.

On the second fill, I flew out to TLBC to fix (what I thought) was a flipped port as told by the doc out here. I was given a 1 cc fill and told the port had not flipped just off on an angle. I was not told not to eat anything for 24 hours. I assume the nurse thought I already knew this from the first fill. When I went back the next day just to see about another cc I was told not for two more weeks. I can't seem to win, can I guys. Sad sack if how I feel. Doddie

Hi Doddie

I guess you got home alright. I can't believe you couldn't get that fill on Friday. They knew that was why you booked the appt. How does your fill from Thursday feel?

The fill is a fair restriction, I think 4cc s will be my limit. I just find that with the clinic staff they assume too much. There should be a policy that they repeat instructions re fasting, etc each and every time a patient is in their clinic. That would prevent any misunderstandings. Just handing out a peice of paper and assuming all patients received the paper and no verbal followup can produce misunderstandings and resentments. I have tried to be patient by telling myself I should ask, but then I come back with how can I ask if I don't know what to ask. Oh well, I am over the worst - have the band, have the first fill, have the second fill so now I think I know all the rules.

Still again, these are little frustrations, I would still do everything all over gain without a second thought. Doddie

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
